...really bad pain in my chest and I could not sleep so I made another doctor’s appointment. When I got there, the doctor took a look at my breast and realized that one was much larger than the other. I went right to ultrasound where they found many cysts in my breast. That was one of the most painful but relieving procedures. I was assured that it was not breast cancer and that I should be fine within a few days. I am very thankful for the technology of ultrasound and I want to be able to help people who have been in similar situations like me. During my 2013 summer break, I also took a certified nursing assistant course and have been working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) since September 2013. I am very interested in becoming a student at Seattle University and I would be thrilled to be given the opportunity to be a part of the Diagnostic Ultrasound Program.
Ultimately, I hope to join the faculty of an academic medical center, where I can combine patient care with my love of teaching, and where I can continue to explore how interactive technologies can inform and empower patients. Most of all, however, I look forward to taking care of my patients, drawing on the remarkable depth and breadth of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
When choosing a career there are many factors that I will need to look at: will it be something I enjoy; am I just in it for the money; will the job be around years from now; how will it affect my family and me; how will I benefit from the job; and how will my personality fit in? I used to work at Conroe Regional Medical Center in the Radiology Department and watching everyone scurry around the halls was very exciting to me. I knew I always wanted to be in the medical industry I just really wasn’t sure where I would fit in just yet. Many times I have thought about going back to school, and many times I have put it off and I kept making excuses and for many reasons and many times I have put it off because I was scared. There finally came a time in my life to where I could not put it off anymore - it was now or never. In saying this I needed a job that will have a solid future and great job security. The career I have chosen is Radiology Technologist. The reason I have chosen radiology technologist is because I am a hands on person and love working with and seeing different people every day. Radiologic technologists have a great outlook in the job industry the employment is expected to grow 28 percent between 2010 and 2020. You can either work in a hospital setting which at times can be a hectic environment. Because many places offer the same imaging equipment that the hospitals have, you can now work in a clinical setting which would be a little more calm and regular set hours. In May 2010 the median yearly wage was $54,340 and can earn as high as $76,850.
I spent the whole year volunteering there like I was one of the doctor’s technicians; they did not just put me in one spot neither. Throughout my senior year I had worked in family health, pediatrics, neurology, the E.R., immunizations, and OB/GYN. Out of all of the places they put me to watch, learn and work I had fallen in love with gynecology. It is just something about helping pregnant women see their babies and helping women get on birth control I like. I found it fascinating to check women’s cervixes for cancer and give women procedures if they had a cyst on their ovary. It was amazing to help women in need and I did not even know that I could fall in love with something in the medical field. This job is also fun because it was a mystery of who would walk in next with their issue and to find out what it was, was so amazing. One time a woman walked in to see the doctor, I was spectating at this point, she said that her breast where bothering her and that they were kind of itchy, then she showed us. I thought to myself, oh that yeast, she has a yeast infection on her boobs and she needs to get it treated because its passing from her baby and back to her because she is breastfeeding.
