ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA
The word media is derived from the word medium, signifying mode or carrier. Media is intended to reach and address a large target group or audience.

In regular media, you only have one-way communication where a sender share information with an audience, for example television. In television they can provide visual information, but the receiver of the information have limited or no access to give feedback to the sender. Social media is two-way communication that gives us the ability to communicate to anyone whenever we want, and both sides can be the sender and receiver of the message. 1

Social media, however, is the future of communication. It is a relatively new form of media and it makes the transfer of photos, audio, video, text and information increasingly fluid among internet users. Today we have platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where people can share as much or as little personal information as they desire with other members of the communities. My focus question is “How does social media affect our daily lives?”. Our daily life is influenced by social media in so many ways. Social media has changed the way we communicate and interact with each other on so many levels. Therefore it has become necessary to be aware of the pros and cons of social media and how it affects our daily lives. In my opinion, social media has had a really positive impact on our society and daily life. I am all about the widening world we live in, and I love that it has become so easy for us to communicate with each other. We are living in a time where the world is open to us. We can contact anyone in the world, whenever we want, with just a few keystrokes. We can also put ourselves out there – share elements of our lives, from what we like to photos of ourselves and the people in our lives.
