Throughout generations, there have been various ways of communication. From sending letters and important documents by carriers in the 18th century to a more efficient way in the 1900’s contributed by the creation of the internet. As technology improved, new modes of communication were created and the need to socialize increased. Today, social media is used by many people and for different reasons. However, it has reached a point where it has received negative criticism. Social media has clearly impacted and changed society negatively.
Social media has a negative impact on our society today due to bullying, job stability, and in person conversations. Bullying affects people because they could attempt to commit suicide. When people have a job they could get in trouble if they start bashing on coworkers. In person conversations aren’t the best because people can give off false information about themselves.
Social networking works like an online community of internet users. Depending on the topic of website, people share their common interests in hobbies, religion, politics and other spheres of their lives. As soon as you sign up, or register on a site, you get access to reading profile pages of other members and possibly even contacting them. While with the constant use of these social technologies, less people are communicating in person, this type of technology might be doing more harm than good because with the rise of websites such as Facebook, social networking may be on the verge of replacing traditional personal interactions for the next generation. Social networks were created for the sole purpose of helping individuals communicate. There are many other reasons that these technologies are used, but communication is still the number one. It is not only changing how we communicate, but how we interact with each other in daily life.

Think of a time when people didn’t have technology and how they had to interact, whether it had been from writing letters to using telegraphs, communicating with people was hard to come by back then. Of course times have changed and now technology has made it easier over the years, social media has become an essential part of our life whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and many other websites. Now days everybody is using it whether its companies using media to promote its products or even teachers to tweet out what last night’s homework was. Social media is a great tool that helps us connect with the world and communicate our ideas. Yet there are some people who believe that social media has a negative impact towards our society as they believe that people can get addicted to it, it causes them to get easily distracted, and many other dangers.
Posting personal information on social media websites can be dangerous. Something as small as posting a personal opinion can cause a conflict between peers. A picture can cause loss of future employment opportunities or cyberbullying. Sexual predators have an ease of access if social media profiles are not protected. Social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are on the internet which is an unsafe place.
The first one is the fact that is is very addictive. Internet addiction is a very real problem and is classed as clinical disorder. Being addicted to something is very draining on your mental and maybe even physical health. For example, you may be so addicted to reading through Facebook every night that you miss out on sleep, making yourself ill. Slowly, as like any other addiction, you do not realize that you would not be able to go without it. Many young people, when faced with overcoming something like anorexia, find it harder to tackle the issue if they have access to certain websites, as the websites fuel their addiction to become thin. Another negative impact that social media has is that it makes us compare our lives to others. Social media is there because it helps us to mask who we really are and sugarcoat our lives. When we get too sucked in, we start to compare our actual lives with a life that someone has more or less made up. This can give us phycological issues and cause us to be very obsessive, especially if it's that we are comparing looks or image. Cyberbullying is a very big factor that has only been around in the past 10 years or so, since social media. A very frequently used site called 'ask.fm' became popular around the year 2013. It involved people writing anonymous comments to each other. In August 2013, ask.fm literally got so out of control that a
I will start with the negative aspects. Social networking has changed the way we communicate with our friends and associates. With hundreds of millions of users online, these tools not only attract friends and family wanting to stay in touch, but they also attract people wanting to know about you for the wrong reasons. Social networking site users are vulnerable to security attacks such as hackings, identity theft or even robbery (Topping). For example, by telling the world you are on vacation, you’re letting potential thieves know where you are, how long you’ll be gone, and where you live. Burglars are fond of constant updates, especially about your travel...
Nowadays, social media is growing very rapidly throughout the whole world. Social media has changed the way that we communicate with others through using these common social networking sites like Face book, Twitter, and Instagram…For that, social media has positively and negatively impacted our life.
It can distract you from your family, work, and school work. It can distract you from special events and moments with your family. You can be so caught up in your sites you’re missing the most important events of your life. It can become an easy distraction from work and school work. Some people may just need to take a ‘break’ and then can get too caught up on social media that they will fail to return to their work. “Many companies have blocked social networks on their office Internet as addicted employees can distract themselves on such sites, instead of focusing on work” (Ta). For those that are in school, grades can begin to drop. Students procrastinate and will choose social media over writing that paper, doing their homework, or studying for a test. Spending too much time on social media can distract you from a certain task. Motivation slowly decreases the more social media is being used. Another big thing that social media distracts people from today is driving. Some people just can’t wait to post a status that they do it while driving. While doing this, it can cause many accidents. It is slowly taking over our
Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
