Mastery learning is a method of instruction where the focus is on the role of feedback in learning. Furthermore, mastery learning refers to a category of instructional methods which establishes a level of performance that all students must “master” before moving on to the next unit (Slavin, 1987). The goal of mastery learning approaches is to have all students learn instructional material at roughly equivalent, high levels. Instructors who use mastery learning break down course material into manageable units and create formative tests for students to take on each of the units. This would be effective as these students would have prior knowledge of certain topics that will be taught. At the beginning of the school term the teacher would start off with pre-assessment quiz to find out what levels the students are. For example in a resource and technology unit such as a home economics, students will be asked name the different types of food groups and give two examples in each food group. Based on the results the teacher will focus on what the students don’t know by giving students researches, regular quizzes and oral question and answer sessions. Teacher can place students in groups to encourage cooperative learning. Each student will be required to learn different aspects of the food group and the function of each. Students will be taking responsibility for their own learning and working with each other to achieve one goal. The teacher will ensure all mistakes on concepts taught are corrected before moving on. Since the summer of my senior year in high school, I was confused about the meaning of learning. What do I want to learn, and what could I do with my bachelor degree? So far, it has been two years. I still could not tell the answer to the first question, but, progressively, I know that I could do nothing with my bachelor degree and even with the higher degrees. On the other hand, the knowledge I learned so far is the thing I could rely. However, in some people’s points of view, this is unpractical. For such a long time, I have found few individuals sharing the similar ideas with me. Once, I saw a celebrity, who graduated from Tsinghua University, having a show online. He said that he was extremely disappointed when a college student, who also studies at Tsinghua University, ask him about whether he should take the examination of the public servant or not. From his point of view, as a part of Tsinghua University, one of the best universities in China, how could such a smart student is satisfied with basic needs, rather than cultivating himself. According to my experience, there are lots of people around me are pursuing material benefits. Self-cultivation, thus, is less important.
What does it mean to lead by example? When people lead by example, they become a person others want to follow. Taking responsibility for your actions is leading by example. It is this because you are taking responsibility for your actions, which encourages kids and other people to do the same. Inspire people to be just like you. Teach and use teamwork so they can learn to do the same. Following the 10 commandments is a good example. Like number nine thou shalt not bear false witnesses which means do not tell lies about other people that is not leading by example. Assessments have always been a tool for teachers to assess mastery and for a long time it was just to provide a grade and enter it into the grade book or report card. Through resources in and out of the course, there has been a breath of new life into the research on how to use assessments. They take many forms and fall within the summative or formative assessment category. Sloan (2016) addresses how formative assessments has traditionally been used by teachers to modify instruction, but when we focus on a classroom that is learner-centered “it becomes assessment for learning as opposed to assessment of learning” (slide 4). Time-out from positive reinforcement is one of the most widely used interventions employed to discipline problem behaviours in children; however it can be beneficial in a variety of areas (Everett, 2010). The purpose of this paper is to review a variety of literature on time-out from positive reinforcement; including what it is, when it is appropriate to use it, effectiveness factors and ethical issues.
This integrative approach focuses mainly on four approaches: psychoanalytic, Adlerian, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and the postmodern approaches. The main focus is on CBT and how psychoanalytic, Adlerian and the postmodern approaches build on this integrative approach. In this integrative approach, the problem at hand is a client dealing with depression. I chose CBT as the main approach because the cognitive thought pattern is an important key for a client and CBT can branch out to other approaches, without interfering with the key concepts.
Educations a key component to the development of mankind; however, there is a distinct difference in the education of adults versus the education of children. It is not practical to assume a learning style used for a kindergartener would be applicable for an adult business person. In fact, pedagogy, or the science of learning, can help explain the constructs required to teach and learn in life and the classroom. Understanding the class of learners and the distinct backgrounds they may have is critical to effective teaching (Kelly, 2006). A class of adults from one state or region may not learn the same as one from another; therefore, understanding the specific needs of an audience is imperative to effective learning.
Mastering one’s self is essential in reaching one’s full potential. In this paper I will attempt to articulate what it means to achieve personal mastery. I will first provide my own personal portrayal of personal mastery. Following, I will illustrate examples from my life, and what personal mastery means to me.

Everyone has different learning styles. Learning styles are important because they help you better understand materials in classes. They are there to guide you and become a better student. Learning styles help you better grasp the material and better process it through your brain. When learning you want to do what is most beneficial for you. That is why there is many different learning styles to suit every person. There is three different types of learning styles categorized. The first learning style is auditory. Auditory is meant for individuals that enjoy asking questions, talking and listening, as well as like to read out loud. Visual learners are more interested in charts, graphs, neat surroundings, seeing rather than hearing, and are pictured to be timid as they read to themselves rather than out loud. Finally there is the kinesthetic learning style. Kinesthetic is to touch, to feel, and usually learn by doing.
Humans are so different when learning that there are not enough names to describes all the ways of learning that exist, as each person has a different one. Learning is a process in which we get to know things about a subject that we do not have much knowledge about and we try to understand the concepts behind it. Each one of us has specific needs, factors or strategies that influence this process and helps it to be as productive as it can be. Personally I think that we all, by the time we get into college, know our specific needs, factors and strategies in which we tend to study and learn in a more productive way. What is a teacher? A teacher is someone who students rely on for further knowledge and comprehension. Often, a teacher is viewed as a role model towards their students. In many times, teachers can help guide students into a better future. Characteristics like preparation, compassion, having and showing respect to students can make a teacher more effective.
I believe that Face to Face learning is better than online learning because students have access to various learning resources on campus verses off. Face to face allows students to have instant gratification with answers and help. When a student is in class they can ask questions while it is fresh on their mind or help with a particular problem. If the student was at home online they would have to wait for the instructor to email them back. Is that really more conducive to a person’s education and learning?
Overall, I feel that the objectives of the lesson was met as the children were able to sort the animals according to two different attributes and describe how they were sorted. This was achieved by asking the children questions to gauge their understanding and by scaffolding their learning as they attempted to sort the animals both individually and in small groups.
Learning is commonly defined as the process of acquiring new, or modifying existing, knowledge through experiences. To me, learning is an ongoing process that continues throughout our lives. When referring to Robert E. Slavin ‘s book, Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice, he mentioned how people are already engaged in a learning environment where they receive stimuli everywhere they go, but they are only aware of some of the stimuli (p.129). By referring to Slavin’s book, what real learning is to me is when an individual actually notice those stimuli, learned particular information and skills from those stimuli, and being able to apply the things they learn to their daily life. Furthermore, when referring to the Operant Conditioning theory by B.F. Skinner, which is mentioned in Slavin’s book, real learning is also when an individual had a change in knowledge and behavior that is caused by experience or consequences, no matter if it is a positive or negative consequence.
