My Brain Is Alive With The Sound of Music
As I get older, being a student and an athlete gets harder and harder to balance. Trying to get all of my homework done and get enough sleep so I can leave for dance at five forty five every morning becomes a challenge. To make sure that I don’t die of sleep deprivation, I try to get my homework done as fast as possible. Listening to music helps me get it done faster and more efficiently. Over time I have become more and more dependent on music while I’m doing things in my everyday life, such as chores, getting ready and homework. However, my parents don’t allow me to listen to it when I’m doing homework, because according to them it “takes away from my learning”. I disagree. I have teachers that don’t play music, and won’t even let the students listen to their own music. I find this rather annoying, because some people work very well while working with music playing and if someone is listening with earbuds in and the person next to them can’t hear it, I’m 110% support that, it’s not hurting anybody, so I don’t see what all of the fuss is about. Other teachers however, encourage us to listen to music, or play some everyday. For me, it keeps me going and it helps my mood so I can get through the day.
If you have parents like mine, you could always listen to music before and after you do your homework, because researchers have found that music improves your attention span, your memory, even your mental math ability. This would help you avoid getting in trouble for listening to music while you’re doing your homework, you will only be helping your brain learn.
The conclusion that scientists have come up with is, in general, most people cannot be productive and do good work while listening to music with vocals, but instrumental music can assist in a student’s performance. It all depends on how each person learns and
