Imagine the day when you see your child’s report card, and all you see are As, and you are speechlessly staring at your child’s grades. Are you still waiting for that moment to come when you will be proud of your child for getting good grades? Have you ever wondered why your child has not been able to do well at school?It is possibly because your child has not been exposed to listening to music while studying. Listening to musiccould be the golden solution for your child. Students definitely need to be granted the freedom to listen music during classes. Listening to music while studying helps to keep one’s mind relaxed. It also helps in finishing work faster and in memorization.
For some people, music serves as a distraction, but this does not apply for everyone. It should also be recognized that music helps keep the brain relaxed, happy, and alert(“Listening to music while you study makes you smarter” par. 5). As stated in an article "Music and Learning" on thelearningweb.net website, "Music relaxes the mind and lowers stress levels that inhibit learning” (qtd. in Petersen par. 2).“Ms. JenniferEllingson, a teacher at Floyd Dryden Middle School says, "Music is the best thing ever created. Music can be relaxing, because it helps you forget about things that are stressful and help you to focus” (Petersen par. 3).
Some people believe that songs with lyrics and melody can distract a student while studying, and hence, the speed of doing work will decrease. However, it must be recognized that there are other types of music, such as classical or instrumental music. Throughout history music has played an important role in society, whether it was Mozart moving people with his newest opera or the latest album from the Beatles. Where would society be today without music? With schools cutting their music programs, the next Mozart may not get his chance to discover his amazing talent. Music programs are essential to education. To fully understand this one must understand how music helps the human body, why schools have cut music programs, and why people should learn music.

Music in my life is really has become a positive thing. I get to relax when I am stressed out, or it gets me pumped up before I do something that would be hard for me or that would need a lot of work for me to do. Music helps students if it is brought to them at a young age, and it even helps the child learn math, reading, and even other languages. I hope that all the research I have brought forwarded to you helps you understand the reasons why music is important young children.
Plato, a famous Greek philosopher, once stated, “I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning.” Often times, humans can be seen possessing the inner desire to achieve greatness through hard work and dedication to an ideal. Some aspire to accomplish simple everyday goals, such as getting up in time for work. Whatever the case may be, teens often try to find ways to achieve social and academic “checkpoints” so that their future seems heartier. Over the years, studies have been conducted regarding whether or not music has an influence on these achievements. These experiments have shown that music does help with many aspects of accomplishment. Because of these studies, it is imperative that society and the human race itself understand that a music education has an impact on social and academic achievement.
Without even hesitating I was the first one to raise my hand in writing this coincidental essay. That’s when I started writing the effects music has had on me while working on school material. With so many different cultures, races, religions, personalities, etc., it’s surprising how many fundamental things humans share. Music intertwines us all with its diversity and the effect it has on us. Whether you’re looking to rock out in a dance party, get a good workout in, sleep soundly, study hard, recover from a depressive state, or get the thrill of a super scary horror movie, music is there. Although listening to music is thought to be solely a source of entertainment, it can be used to improve almost all aspects of our everyday life.
Music is one of the few things that has remained constant through the centuries this world has existed. Not only does music provide entertainment, it also has several effects linked to it. Music allows emotions of happiness and sadness to arise. From those emotions, physical effects, negative or positive, can occur. Do you ever find yourself losing interest or are distracted by people or sounds around you while working on homework, studying, at work, etc.? Listening to music is a productive activity that can enhance your concentration to complete certain tasks. Listening to music while studying helps block out people as well as other noises that could cause you any sort or distraction. While at work music helps you not get bored while working on task that needs to be completed. Also, certain music one listens to helps you relax while working or studying under pressure. With the help of this simple activity of listening to your choice of music while studying or working you will be able to focus attention on your duty stress-free.
It can be proven, through literary research and personal experiences, that music has a positive effect on learning and memory. It can be concluded that these positive effects have an impact on patients with Alzheimer’s, on the motor skills and auditory memory of mentally disabled children, on students attempting to remember subject manner that they are learning, and on the affectivity of advertisements. On a personal note, music has facilitated my ability to remember things, both positive and negative, a number of times. For example, in high school I memorized the days of the week in French by singing them along with a tune that was already familiar to me. I have also had multiple experiences in which I remember things that I do not want to remember such as advertisements and negative experiences because they were accompanied with specific music. Despite the miniscule negative effects of music on memory, the powerful ability of music to trigger memory production and recall is undeniably beneficial. The profound effect of music on memory and learning makes music a great tool for helping people who want to improve cognitive function, whether they need to receive treatment for a mental disease or learn new information.
Listening to music releases dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is known not only for improving mood but also increasing motivation and emotional stamina. But the benefits that come from listening to music affect more than just the way we feel. Studies have shown that when listening to the right style of music at the right decibel level, students have been able to concentrate better. As a future educator it will be difficult to include music into the daily classroom curriculum but with the variety of methods it should be easier. Using the chunk and chain method will be the most helpful method in my classroom. This allows me to make sure all my students are understanding the lyrics of the song and if I need to repeat a line several times, I can. Music can be implemented in the classroom during silent reading, or during a science lesson. I plan on using music during my classroom lessons. I learn better when you give me a catchy tune to remember so, I am sure my students will love a catchy tune to remember. Music is an important key element to learning.
