Music Education in School

Music in school is very important because of how much music can benefit the brain. Taking music classes can improve early cognitive development associated with memory, reasoning and problem solving, all of which are very important in the development of the brain. It is also said that music can expand a child’s imagination which could also entail an increase in creativity.
Music can enhance learning in other subjects as well. For example, in early stages some teachers will use music as a learning tool to learn math equations or the alphabet. Musical rhymes are also used to teach children how to write and learn the months and different seasons we experience each year. Some may argue that cutting music education would help lower the expenses of public education however, it is important that people have the opportunity to learn through different mediums.
Self-esteem is another important quality that music can improve by encouraging people, also by providing relaxation. Self-esteem can affect every aspect of one’s life. It is important to have respect for yourself and also have the courage to try new things. Having a good self-esteem can help with both of those aspects. Endorphins can be released while listening to, singing or even playing meaningful music, which can decrease depression. This does not discount others who may have lower self- esteem, but that someone with a good self-esteem values oneself.
In each life there is going to be a time when a person is going to work in a team. Attending a music class can help with one’s ability to work in a team setting cooperatively. While you are learning how to work your voice or play an instrument you are also learning how to stay in rhythm with the rest ...

In conclusion, music is a very important part of brain growth. Music can improve academic skills, physical skills and can refine discipline and patience. I believe that if music classes were a requirement in all schools we would see a lot of improvement in many areas. Not just in academics but with mental health as well. Music has a special power to move us and stir our emotions. Listening or playing one of your favorite songs can be soothing and reduce anxiety.

"The skills gained through sequential music instruction, including discipline and the ability to analyze, solve problems, communicate and work cooperatively, are vital for success in the 21st century workplace."
