“More than 7.6 million students played sports during the 2010-2011 school year, an increase of nearly 40,000 students compared to 2009-2010” (Koebler 1). Some students get excited to be in school because of sports. For these students, sports provide a little bit of fun and confidence in their day. The “No Pass, No Play Rule” states that if you don’t pass your classes, you may not participate in sports. Athletes and other people find this unfair. People may say that students may get distracted by sports. However, sports can boost self esteem, make a student stay healthy, and let a student have fun in school. Students do not need passing grades to play a sport because sports can boost self esteem, make a student stay healthy, and let a student have fun in school.

The Board of Education states, “The Board of Education recognizes the value of a program of athletic competition for both boys and girls as an integral part of the total school experience. Game activities and practice sessions provide opportunities to learn the values of competition and good sportsmanship. Programs of athletic competition, both interscholastic and interscholastic, offer pupils the opportunity to exercise and test their athletic abilities in a context greater and more varied than that offered by the class or school or school district alone, and an opportunity for career and educational development.”(ELANOnline District Policies 1)This concludes the Board of Education thinks that sports is a part of the total school experience. So, therefore kids with bad grades won get the full experience? Another thing is that sports can help boost self-esteem and confidence. A
