Being involved in a team sport can also help you to attain personal fitness goals and maintain wellness. The time spent practicing with a team, will improve your skills and give you countless hours of enjoyment. Participating in a team sport can increase one’s self esteem. By being part of a team, you will give and receive praise. Receiving recognition from a team mate or a coach will boost your self esteem because you have been acknowledged for your efforts. As you are praised for your efforts, you will become more confident, thus improving your self esteem. Often times, the bond formed between team mates on the field translates into a friendship off the field. As team mates come to depend on each other and know that they are depended on, their level of commitment or responsibility to the game and skills needed for the game increases. An article titled “The Benefits of Team Sports” fro... ... middle of paper ... ... in a meeting that there is an upcoming project and that everyone must contribute to the completion of the project, he expects for all the employees to work together to finish. When it comes time to present your project and everyone else had completed their assigned task to specifications but you have gone off and made your own plans for how to complete the project, then it isn’t going to be completed or presented correctly. Partaking in school sports can have benefits and drawbacks. A student could be gaining confidence or wearing out their body. Sports is like betting, you win big or lose big. Winning meaning earning friends, gaining confidence, and maintaining better health. Losing meaning visits to the emergency room, countless injuries , and not being
Professional athletes get into the major leagues because it is an activity they love to do. Though some do go into the leagues mainly for the fame, these people are there because they feel they deserve to be there due to all their hard work and dedication. Although there are good intentions involved in the choices they choose to take, the means begin to vary in time.
All of my life the sports I have played consisted of teams, and those teams had to work together in order to succeed. Team players are people who can cooperate willingly with everyone but it is more than that. A team player improves others performance around him, a team player makes everyone a better individual and exploits their talents, a team player boosts efficiency as far as chemistry.
There are many great benefits to playing school sports. Some main benefit topics I am going to discuss are Health Benefits, Social Benefits, and Emotional Benefits. First is the Health Benefits you get from participating in a high school sport, like eating healthy. You may say that’s not true, but most dedicated young athletes are likely to “consume more fruits and vegetables”(Taliaferro, 2010). Along with eating healthy to keep up with the team, these sports “encourage healthy decisions such as not smoking or drinking”. Being a part of a team you become close to your teammates which “boosts friendships, and builds relationships with peers and adults”(Mariana Jean Shile, 2013).
The article I read talked about how football student athletes have successfully completed their freshman year. The question remained was why were the football student athletes successful in their freshmen year in college, what strategies took place, how did they grab the student athletes attention, and what suggestions would they have to assist in retaining students and promoting their academic success among first year student athletes.
Playing football has given me the opportunity to meet new people and make new friendships that will last a lifetime. Those friendships are made in the hot summer workouts, when everyone is tired, hot, and thinking about giving up, teammates are right by their side motivating them. After a brutal beginning of the season players are scraped and bruised and during mid-season practices, some players may think that the team doesn’t have any chance at being in the playoffs. Teammates unite together and remind each other that if everyone works together, everything will fall into place. A good team involves also being in good physical shape. Players are banged up and have little annoying pains, but that doesn’t stop a good team so the conditioning doesn’t stop. Everyone has to do it, but being on a team that helps motivate each other, it helps the pain feel more tolerable. In any sport you will be thrown into rigorous situations and being with your teammates and sticking together through it all will not only make the team better, it also will help bring you closer to your
Over the past 20 years, college athletics has gained in popularity. College sports has become a household entity. Every child growing up has their favorite college team. Whether it be from family relations with alumni, geographic orientation or simply watching the sports colleges provide. In the world of college sports, there are three that stand out above the rest. Football, basketball and baseball are among the NCAA’s top-grossing sports. Billions of dollars are generated through marketing contracts, ticket-sales, and merchandising. Intercollegiate sports have boosted revenue as well as increasing the popularity and public image of their respective Universities.
By now almost everyone has heard about child obesity in America, but just how high are the rates? The answer might surprise you. According to Nate Whitman, a writer for The Huffington Post, “rates of obesity have doubled in 2- to 5-year-olds, quadrupled in 6- to 11-year-olds, and tripled in 12- to 19-year-olds” (par. 2). This is due to more children staying inside and only doing activities such as video games. They do not interact with anyone besides whomever they are talking to online. These findings are astonishing to say the least. What can we do to combat this? Involvement in organized sports helps children develop their social skills, improve their academic progress, and stay active.
It can also help you gain working skills like leadership or working great with others, which in every job you have to communicate or do things with co-workers. Sports help you develop discipline, learn to set goals and then work to achieve those goals. Kid’s who are involved in sports are less likely to take drugs or smoke because they realize that those harmful things can affect their performance and for girls who play sports are also less likely to become pregnant or get to other troubles. One of things that I mostly like is that helps you use your time wisely. I learn how to manage my everyday life schedule, like how much time I should put on school, soccer, and others thing I needed to do.
Firstly, it is vital to note that anxiety, motivation, and concentration tremendously influence people's self-confidence and their performance at the long-run (Damon & Raedeke, P 188). Higher self-confidence reduces anxiety. The vice versa is also true. This is based on the fact that optimally confident sports people experience fewer doubts on self. Their worries reduce and give room for concentration in their activities. Additionally, motivated athletes are in a better position to strive towards achieving their goal. Motivation enables sports people to combat negativity and low self-esteem as they focus more on their goals other than obstacles. Therefore, it is fundamental to note that coaches and sports people must collaborate in finding any mechanisms that could stimulate and uphold self-esteem since it is, directly and indirectly, impactful to their
Statistics state that children and teens who participate in team activities/sports show better communication skills, and are better rounded. “When a team outgrows individual performance and learns team confidence, excellence becomes a reality.” That quote is by Joe Paterno. Being apart of team helps develop a good character, morals, and confidence.
The main goals behind Sport Education are to help students become knowledgeable about different sports and activities to the point where they can participate in these outside of the classroom to stay active. Also it teaches execution and strategies and encourages competitiveness. It is important for kids to be competitive because they will have to be in life and it will teach the importance of winning and losing the right way. “Sports offer kids a great chance to work cooperatively toward a common goal. And working coope...
Participating in team sports is important not just for health reasons, but also for your healthy intellects and emotions. Playing sports that is in range of the player’s interest helps relieve stress and maintain their mental health. A team is mostly about unity within the team and with the coach, so no one can be selfish. Therefore playing in team sports develops good characteristics within oneself. Being part of a team sport should help create the opportunity to gain meaningful insight into one's leadership, social and cognitive development. Team sports helps build good character because they teach athletes discipline and how to have good sportsmanship. Chatterjee and Jatta declared that human beings learn and work together in various professional
Being a part of a team sport shows members commitment and dedication to an activity. It allows the team member to learn commitment not only in team sports, but overall in life as well. Some of my best childhood memories involve playing in a basketball game as a kid with my parents watching. The lessons and experiences I gained from playing sports are invaluable. I think it should be required to play a team sport while you are child in elementary school. The skills you will receive from playing a sport is unparalleled at that age. Team sports teaches kids people skills, and how to make friends. It also provides exercise that the kids need at a young age. Finally it shows that hard work will get rewarded.
