What is a colorist? A colorist uses chemicals to change the color of someone’s hair. They apply a solution that lightens or darkens the client’s hair. Usually a colorist is skilled at talking with people, to reach understanding with their clients on what they want. What are the requirements and duties of a colorist? What is someone required to do to become a colorist? What does the job involve? Hair colorists can have a variety of different responsibilities, depending on their specific salon. In expensive, high-end salons, the color specialist has only coloring responsibilities; in smaller salons, the hair stylists might be responsible for coloring, cutting, washing, and styling, as well as various other jobs.
