Despite what many people might think, Animal Cruelty is a well-known topic across hundreds of areas all over the world. Animal Cruelty has been around for almost several centuries now and has an important meaning in the lives of many. It would probably be safe to assume that Animal Cruelty will most likely be around for quite a long time into the future as well as an enormous impact on the lives of many people as well. As for the United States of America, Animal Cruelty is a major growing problem. It is well known that nearly thousands of pets are euthanized or abused every year.
One of the most overlooked social issues in our society is simply the abuse of animals. In our society today most animal abuse victims are dogs followed by cats and other animals. In our society today many people look at animals as property and possessions. Even though legally there are yours people in this society need to understand that animals are breathing organisms that have life and feelings just like we do. So we need to try to help everyone in different communities understand what animal abuse is and when they are doing it, knowingly and unknowingly.
Should animals have to go through pain and suffering? Should they have to go without food and/or water? The answer is no. Animal abuse happens everyday and it happens because people are barbarous or because they don’t know how to take the best care of an animal that they have. Whatever the reason it’s still not right and will never be okay. This paper will cover a brief history of animal abuse, the statistics, the signs of animal abuse, and what can be done to stop animal abuse. Animal abuse needs to end for the animals that can’t speak for themselves.
Animal Cruelty While watching television one day I saw a commercial for the ASPCA about giving donations to help this organization stop animal cruelty and rescue abused animals. After seeing this I started wondering how many people just watched the same commercial and didn’t pay attention because it was just a commercial. However it wasn’t just a commercial it was a plead, a wish, and a warning to anyone who wants to stop the abuse of animals. Animal cruelty is a major concern in the world today with so many animals being abused however there are ways in which to prevent this and the public needs to be more aware of the types, the signs, and what they can do to stop animal cruelty as well as the organizations that help make this possible like the ASPCA.
There are many problems around the world involving animal cruelty from chickens getting jumped on alive to orcas at SeaWorld not getting the attention they need. The statistics have gone up drastically in the past couple years. There are many actions we could do to fix the problem of animal cruelty. “Violators would be placed on a terrorist registry” (Oppel).
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Over the centuries, animals have suffered from cruelty from humans. In the United States, animals are beaten, neglected, or forced to struggle for survival. Animals have been inflicted with pain from humans for reasons other than self-defense. They have been slaughtered for their food and fur for personal gain in profit. In a majority of cases they have even been abused for someone’s own personal amusement or out of rage filled impulses. In some cases animals are found and rescued. They are given the second chance in life to experience what life should be like compared to what they once had.
Animal abuse and abandonment are a few of many forms of animal cruelty, and while efforts have been made to end animal cruelty, many animals are still suffering. Is animal cruelty right in anyone’s eyes? You would like to think it is not, but in reality there are many people that just do not care! Any act of violence or neglect perpetrated against animals is considered to be cruelty to an animal (The American Society of Prevention of Cruelty). Animals do not deserve to be abused for any reason (The Humane Society 2)! Animals are not humans; they are helpless and defenseless creations that can only defend themselves to a certain extent (The American Society of Prevention of Cruelty). Animals have feelings and want to be loved, just as well as people. People often think just because they cannot speak their mind, or express their feelings, that they do not have any; that is false (The American Society of Prevention of Cruelty 3)! We, as humans, do not like being beat, neglected, or abused, so why would an animal like it (The Humane Society 2)? Not everyone has a heart for animals (The Humane Society 2); however, no one should abuse them under any circumstances (The Humane Society 3)!
Animal Cruelty It is a reasonable thought to think that humans as a society must respect the environment around them in order to have balance. Balance as in knowing what is moral and just and what is blatantly wrong. Sadly, this is nothing more than a thought. Abuse towards the environment, especially animals, is present everywhere. Whether it be through emotional pain, physical pain, or the extent of the abuse, mistreatment of any animal should not be tolerated and should be brought awareness to.
