Seeing maimed animals are not pleasant images. Those images sometimes appear across computer and television screens. The advocacy groups who place these images in the public’s view are trying to jolt people into the realization that abuse exists. For every ten seconds that goes by an animal is getting abused (“Animal… Statistics”). One statistic states that “71% of pet-owning women entering women’s shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or to psychologically control victims; 32% reported their children had hurt or killed animals” (“Animal… Violence”). Animal cruelty comes in several forms, some of which people do not know. There is animal experimenting, animal abuse, and mistreatment of animals. and through revealing the results from research, one discovers the horrific effects of animal abuse. …show more content…
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Do you know that if you buy a pet from a pet store, there will be some animals die in the shelters? Do you also know that every year there are thousands of sheltered animals are euthanized—mercy killing— because there is no space for them? Many people buy pets rather than adopt from shelters because they think they are healthy, purebred and well-behaved. But actually the sheltered animals may be healthier, happier and much cheaper. In the recent years, more and more people decide to adopt animals since there are numerous advantages such as changing a homeless animal’s whole life, reducing illegal trade and puppy farms and benefiting from long- term advice and support.
Ascione’s (1993) definition of animal cruelty is defined as “socially unacceptable behavior that intentionally causes unnecessary pain, suffering, or distress to and/or death of an animal” exclusive of socially condoned behavior, such as legal hunting and certain agricultural and veterinary practices. Not all violent individuals have been previously cruel to animals but studies have shown that a great number of them have exhibited this behavior. A great majority of the literature calls for a better understandin...
You have all seen the distressing American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the ASPCA, commercials. Sarah McLachlan heartbreakingly belts out “In the Arms of an Angel” as photos of abused cats and dogs flash across your television screen, compelling you for your help. While there has been much progress in terms of protection of animals recently, thanks in part to organizations like the ASPCA, animal cruelty laws need to be altered because the laws are not strict enough to discourage abusers from repeating their crimes, animal cruelty has been linked to other types of violence, and many animal cruelty laws do not encompass all types of animal abuse.
Animals are used today for many sources of protection, food, clothing, transportation, sports, entertainment, and labor, but millions of these animals die each year from abuse. “Most of the reasons that people give for denying animals rights are: animals do not have souls, god gave humans dominion over the animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, animals do not reason, think, or feel pain like humans do, animals are a natural resource to used as humans see fit, and animals kill each other” (Evans). It all started in the nineteenth century, when people began abusing animals by beating them, feeding them poorly, providing them with no shelter or poor shelter, left to die if they were sick or old, or by cruel sports. Most of the organized efforts to improve human treatment of animals all started in England. Around the 1800s, there was signs of rising concern for animal welfare in the United States.

Animals in Captivity Seeing tigers jump over each other, elephants balance on a wooden ball, or orcas waving their tails; it can be easy to forget what they are going through. Some think Zoos, Aquariums, Circuses and other places that collects wild animals are like homes. I disagree, I think zoos are more like prisons. According to dictionary.com a prison is: any place of confinement or involuntary restraint.
The abuse that animals endure at human hands is heartbreaking, sickening, and infuriating. Animals are just as delicate as humans, so why not abuse us too? Animal lives should be just important as ours. No animals should be killed or abused for testing, entertaining, clothing, or hoarding. Every year, millions of animals are being killed and torture for testing.
Animal abuse is a very controversial topic in recent times. Numerous crimes against animals have stirred up the activists who are trying to punish people for animal abuse. A few years ago a man named Andre Robinson posted a video on Facebook of him kicking a cat, causing it to fly several yards. The animal rights activists burst into outrage over this minor action. He was soon after arrested for animal abuse.
Animal rights is a big topic in the meat and dairy industry. According to Animals, in the USA alone we kill and abuse nine billion animals a year for consumption. Think about how many animals are executed in a decade. “Animal supporters say animals should have the same rights to life and liberty as human beings (SCHOLASTIC UPDATE)”. In these industries animals are Intensively confined, Physically deformed, and Genetically manipulated.
Growing up eating animals was something that was normal. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eggs, bacon and steak. Animals are creatures that I grew up around not only on my food, but also on my grandfather's farm. Hearing pigs getting slaughter in the next room.
Persuasive Essay Animals were everywhere in history: the saber tooth tiger , dodo bird and the mammoth and so on. Humans are the cause of certain animal extinctions. From Poaching which decreases their numbers to Pollution which makes them sick to Destroying their habitat which makes them lose their homes, humans are.... That is how animals can die and the bad thing is that we are mostly the cause of it. Pollution is a major way we cause animal extinction.
There are a variety of different opinions and moral positions that divide people all around the world when it comes to the controversial subject of how the human race chooses to exploit animals. Animals deserve the same rights as humans, yet the treatment of animals in today’s society should result in farms, companies, and even whole industries being sued for the reprehensible treatment that is practiced daily. My question is, why do we protect and hold various animals in high esteem, but continuously deprive other animals of their basic gift of life? Why is it a common belief that some animals hold more right to live a free and happy life than others? Why has the human race come to the conclusion that we can play god and dictate mass slaughter,
For animal welfare and the causes of animal abuse new research has been created. Since animal abuse is fairly a new subject, new research is constantly brought up. In the Bahamas a study was done in the College of Bahamas, and it states that, “…dogs were equally likely to be considered members of the household in homes without domestic violence,” (Fielding 197). Homes with violence show that humans substitute human victims for animal victims. Animal rights activists are trying to break down symbolic boundaries betw...
Save the Animals How boring would the world be without wildlife? Why should we have to kill endangered animals to help save them? One must be aware of how some magnificent big and small animals are coming close to extinction. The cause of this tragedy is due to trophy hunting, meaning that hunters only kill for the head or certain body parts of the animal. There are many reasons why it may be acceptable to have trophy hunting, but also how it can damage the wildlife, making them face extinction at an alarming rate.
