One of the most overlooked social issues in our society is simply the abuse of animals. In our society today most animal abuse victims are dogs followed by cats and other animals. In our society today many people look at animals as property and possessions. Even though legally there are yours people in this society need to understand that animals are breathing organisms that have life and feelings just like we do. So we need to try to help everyone in different communities understand what animal abuse is and when they are doing it, knowingly and unknowingly.
Animal abuse has been going on in societies for many decades and centuries. Dating all the way back to ancient times. Different animals have been abused in different places and settings. Such as homes, science labs, farms, factories and so many more places. It is reported by the HSUS (The Humane Society of the United States) that nearly 1 million animals are abused and killed in a year. Thats a lot of animals abused and killed!

Deliberate abuse( knowingly) is any abuse done on purpose to hurt a animal. Involves any type of beating, shooting, stabbing, or even in some cases setting animals on fire. Animal abusers can start abusing animals at young ages. Many people that abuse animals do it for amusement or to feel powerful about controlling something. Most of the people that deliberately abuse animals have psychological problems and need help from professional psychologists.Signs of deliberate animal abuse abandonment. Numbers of animals die annually when people move out of their residences and leave their animals
Therefore, animal abuse is a growing trend in today’s society. This trend is bad for today’s society for reasons including death row for the animals, an increase in cost for animal shelters, and a decrease in space for the animals to be safe. Society can stop animal abuse by reporting anything they might see. Together, our society can put a stop to animal abuse, and protect our domesticated pets.
Ascione’s (1993) definition of animal cruelty is defined as “socially unacceptable behavior that intentionally causes unnecessary pain, suffering, or distress to and/or death of an animal” exclusive of socially condoned behavior, such as legal hunting and certain agricultural and veterinary practices. Not all violent individuals have been previously cruel to animals but studies have shown that a great number of them have exhibited this behavior. A great majority of the literature calls for a better understandin...
Animal cruelty is just one reason why animal abuse is bad. Part of the problem is people who hurt animals don’t do it on purpose they just do not know how to take care of the animals (Mason 6). Other times people enjoy engaging in watching two animals fight. Some owners test them to see if they are good fighting dogs and if they are not they kill their dogs This one owner killed his dogs that would not fight by hanging, drowning and slamming the dogs (Dohrmann). Most of the time when the animals fight one of the animals dies and the other of is badly injured (Mason 31). The people that watch place bets on which dog they think will win. This is cruel to the animal because they have to fight if they don’t they may die. If they don’t die they
When an animal is beaten, it not only causes the animal to be physically harmed, but it can also result in the animal receiving severe psychological damage. The abuse can cause the animal to become afraid of all humans, whether they are abusive or not. Not only can the victim become afraid of humans, it can cause it to even be hostile towards people and other animals. For example, if a dog’s previous owner was abusive, that can end in the dog being aggressive towards others due to its fear of being hurt like he/she was in the past. A tremendous part of animal cruelty that people do not recognize is the abuse of animals is linked to the abuse of humans in many cases. Animal neglect correlates with human neglect, which usually involves a child, elder, or other dependent (Animal Legal Defense Fund). In a survey, seventy-one percent of domestic violence victims said that their abuser also turned their household pet into a victim of abuse (Animal Cruelty Facts and Statistics). In a study completed in 1983, eighty-eight percent of families under investigation for child abuse partook in animal abuse along with the abuse of their child (Animal Cruelty Facts and Statistics). Not only does this cruelty affect the victims, but it can also affect the ones witnessing the violence. When someone is in the presence of violence of an animal or another person, it can affect the
Animal cruelty is everywhere even in the country where the animals are raised for food. People beat, torturer, and even give animals drugs to make them high. When people are convicted of animal cruelty they basically just get a slap of the wrist, the court system does not charge them for anything. The reason they do not charge people for this is because the court system does not see them as people, we see them as animals but they also feel like us. We cannot stop people from doing things to animals but people can give them more time for what they did, the law put people away for murdering other people because they are humans.
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Animal abuse has been around since the beginning of time. Animal abuse comes in all forms. Just because someone is not hitting animals does not mean that they are not abusing the animal. People can abuse animals by not giving them any food. There is no reason for animal abuse, but people still do it. Some animals are abused for others’ enjoyment. The owners of these animals do not seem to understand that what they are putting the animals through is wrong. The owners have no limits that they will not push the animals to. Even young animals are suffering at the hand of man.
More than 48% of all animals are abused every year. “Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized 670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats”(Pet Statistics)
Most people are either unaware, or refuse to look at the facts concerning animal abuse. Animal abuse is the immoral and necglectful treatment that threatens the life on an animal. This unethical behavior is often expressed through corporate methods of producing products made from animals. The food and beauty industry are notorious offenders of the welfare of living beings. Evidence has shown that there are well known, multi-billion dollar industries that have been torturing innocent and voiceless animals in secrecy all around the globe. Humans often benefit from these creatures through commercial means, but think little of the agony these animals must endure from the bloodshed. If society is not willing to give up it's exploitative tendencies towards the lives of animals, big and small, then stricter laws need to be enforced defending the animals, and consumers have to be made aware of the atrocities that have been taking place.
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
Imagine that you are an innocent little bunny, then all of a sudden you see a huge needle coming straight to you. Aaaaah, you're trying to signal to the strange people in white coats. But no, you suddenly feel a burning sensation in your body, whatever was in the needle had made it into your body, and now is flowing through your veins, and is trapped in your little body. The next second, you drop onto the floor, and the last words you hear are, “Oops looks like it didn't work”. I really was interested in how animals are being treated in other places. Having my own dog makes me feel like how lucky, some dogs or cats or other animals are to have homes, and people who care about them. Other animals don't have the luck, some do, that Is why people who test medicines use the animals that don’t have a family. A few questions that I had while doing my research was. Who is helping to stop animals from suffering? Also I was wondering how we could save animals from abuse. My driving question is, What should we do to solve animal abuse? After my research for my topic, I have realized that it is clear, if people make an effort to save animals, there will
Animal cruelty is a problem quickly growing in today’s world. Animals are being beaten, starved and killed everyday and so many helpless animals die each year because of heartless owners. There are a lot of types of animal cruelty some of the common forms are scientists doing experiments on dogs, or when people abuse and mistreat animals.
There are those people however that DO abuse animals on purpose. This is known as intentional abuse. Many of the people guilty of this are people of the younger gen...
Review Main Points-Animal cruelty continues to be a problem, but we as individuals can make a difference by becoming aware and ultimately involved.
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
