Reconstruction of our nation after the civil war was not an easy task. I’m answering the question on whether or not reconstruction was successful. In many ways it was and wasn’t successful. After completing my readings and using primary sources I would have to say that reconstruction was as successful as it was ever going to be. We see corruption, misinformation and loop-holed laws that allow for the continued enslavement of an entire race. After the Civil War had ended the nations intended goal was to end slavery all together. This idea is all well and good, but those upset by this were not going quietly into the night. Other than the Impeachment of President Andrew Johnson not many acts by the people showed that they truly wanted reconstruction to succeed. Within our provided materials I have read that reconstruction was a failed idea, but I tend to see it differently. I feel that it was as successful as the people were going to allow it to be. There were opportunities to keep oppressing the black population, monies to be made and power to be had from this.
