There were many successes and failures of reconstruction in the south after the Civil War. Here are some of the positive and negative things that came out of reconstruction: Positive: the reunification of the union, Expansion of the South & North’s economy, More laws, Freedmen’s Bureau, Education, The compromise of 1877, and the Enforcement Act of 1870. Negative: Ku Klux Klan, Poverty, Sharecropping, and black codes. The Original goal in the Civil War was to keep the nation together it did that by putting the word United in United Sates again. There were also new amendments that were added to the constitution: the 13th 14th and the 15th. The Amendments granted equal rights to people of all color. This also helped resolve Federalism disputes between Kentucky and Virginia.

Confederacy was destroyed for good. The Federal Government had also outlawed slavery with the 13th amendment. The 13th amendment defined citizenship and protected all Americans under the law. Also all of the southern states drafted new constitutions and ratified the amendments. A lot of African Americans had participated in local governments. Businessmen had opened new industries such as steel, cotton and lumber mills. Also black institutions and churches had gained autonomy.

First off there was the Ku Klux Klan better known as the KKK. This was a group of people who wore robes and masks. They pretended to be the ghosts of confederate soldiers. These people were scared of changes and the rising rights of African Americans. This was also in the north not just the south. Poverty was a big thing after reconstruction. It was a problem before reconstruction but it got bigger after. Poverty was a global issue in the south where a lot of white southerners had lost their land. This caused them to be trapped in a little poverty cycle. African Americans had little job
