It wasn’t until the early 19th century when women began to fulfill occupations outside of their homes. Though most of these jobs took place in factories during World War II, it was a huge accomplishment for women to prove that they can do more than just be housewives and caregivers. It also proved that women can do male dominated jobs while the men were away fighting in the cold hard war. With strong images of women being shown during this time like Rosie the Riveter proved that women could juggle both home life and work. With this being said, since the very beginning of time women have always been compared to men and sometimes not in the most positive light. A double standard is a rule or principle which is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups. This concept may also be used to excuse certain behaviors that would not be acceptable for another group to do. These standards can be seen today as unruly to certain types of groups but somehow these types of situations still take place in the workplace especially for women. Though times have changed from hundreds of years ago, women are still face with issues that are less favorable to them than when it comes to their male counterparts. Whether it is based on their appearance, dedicating time to their jobs, or simply being labeled as “bossy”. Women seem to always get the shorter end of the stick when it comes to working in the workforce. These are just a list of ways that women deal with double standards. All of these things take place when women are surrounded in a work environment dominated mostly by male colleagues. Every day when women enters a work environment they are being judged on the way that they look, while men on the other hand are barely given a second glance. Women should be judged based off of the work that they produce and not on the way that choose to show up for work. With this kind of mindset, this would be the first step in showing improvement and some type of equality in the workplace. If a woman is given the opportunity to get a head in the workplace she should be seen as a hard worker. They should be able to successfully succeed in doing what they love in their work environment. If a woman decides to voice her opinion in either a forceful or passive tone, the type of reaction should still be given to her the same way as would a male coworker and not to be taken so personal. When women are face with double standards they are being veiwed as not being equally important as the men that they work with. This kind of mindset is not at all true and women should not only be seen as equal to men but to also be given the same respect as well. With these steps taken into consideration for use in the workplace. This could help put a end to the kinds of double standards that women may face in the
