The documentary "The Mask You live In" is about the "traditional masculinity has encompassed the values of strength, power stoicism, action, control, and independence" (The Mask You Live In). Throughout the documentary there are men and young boys that share their story about how they been told that in order to be a man you need to have certain traits which vary from being strong, dominant, size, and other characteristics. Many of the men state that from a young age they were told that not to cry because it made them appear weak or a "sissy". One of the psychologists from the film asserts that masculinity is a rejection of anything that is feminine. Since I was little, I recall my parents buying me a lot of Disney movies and toys and it resulted me becoming a Disney fanatic. However, when Jaclyn would provide examples of how racism, sex, and gender were portrayed through Disney characters, it changed my perspective of Disney. For example, I reminisce when I would watch the movie "Aladdin", it never occurred to me how Disney princesses are being displayed in the movies. But Jaclyn explained how in "Aladdin", princess Jasmine is portrayed as an exotic and seductive young girl especially in the scene where she is trying to distract Jafar with her very revealing outfit. It is astonishing to think how many parents including my own parents permitted and are still allowing their kids to watch movies without realizing the context behind it. Although Jasmine is probably one of the most sexualized female characters of all the other Disney princesses, the other princesses are still displayed as beautiful character young ladies. Growing up and watching all the Disney movies, I remember I always wanted to be Ariel because I always thought she was perfect because she was so beautiful and skinny. Disney not only on me but other girls like my cousin because I remember once, I overheard my her claiming she wanted to just like Ariel because she's pretty and has a handsome prince. Although, I still continue to watch Disney movies, I can't help to think what other ways Disney portrays its
