The purpose of the Conflict Analysis paper is to analyze an interpersonal and interdisciplinary communication conflict that I have experienced while working as a nurse. I provided a brief and respectable experience that I encountered with a new graduate nurse. I go into detail about how the new graduate did not use sterile technique while placing an indwelling catheter. I used assertive communication and enhanced listening skills in order to get my point across. The graduate nurse was able to communicate effectively as well without any interruption or further conflict.
In life wherever you go and where there are people, there will always be some form of conflict. On a nursing unit there are many ways to encounter conflict, whether you as the nurse are looking for a conflict or not. Conflict

.... She listened attentively as well. Using the confronting strategy in a positive direction no further problems developed and the teaching session went well. There appeared to be no barriers to our communication. The both of us showed mutual respect for each other.
Working in a fast paced environment dealing not only with patients and staff, we also deal with continuous deadlines and changing policies. I also informed the new nurse to stay abreast of policy and if she do not know policy at least know where to find them. I did point her in the right direction to find all policies and procedures.
The new graduate nurse and I have been working together on our unit side by side for over a year now. We have an awesome working relationship. She occasionally thanks me for the teaching encouraged that we shared and for not putting her on blast for her mistake.

Nurses are caring by nature. Nurses care for family members while at home, community members who may be neighbors, church members or friends from school and sports with children in common; however, nurses are known to display uncaring attitudes towards each other. When nurses are discourteous and disrespectful towards one another this may be known as workplace incivility. Incivility is defined by Merriam-Webster as, “the quality of state of being uncivil and a rude or discourteous act” (n.d.). Alexander (2017) related incivility to the events of the 2016 United States election as “rude and impolite behaviors that may be manifested when people feel fear or mistrust” (p. 79). Healthcare is subject to the same negative influence through communication between healthcare providers, educators and patients.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the issue of incivility in nursing and how this affects the work environment, the importance that this has in the microsystem and the nursing profession and how suggestions on how to create healthy work atmosphere through my advanced practice in the family nurse practitioner field.
Nurses are always exposed to situations or often interact with others where their values or belief might contradict with others. Conflict can often lead to distress and increases stress in the workplace environment, however if handled appropriately it can promote growth and understanding amongst the staff.

The intent of this paper is to analyze interviews with a staff nurse and a nurse manager. The interview questions revolve around what the nurses perceive as the main communication issues at work. More specifically, the communication issues with patient communication, communication with colleagues and communication with leadership/administration. This paper will also list three actions that would improve communication in response to the issues raised during the interviews.

Communication encompasses a wide range of processes such as the exchange of information, listening, posing of questions (Fleischer et al., 2009) or use of body language. Communication is where two or more people interact with each other, by using sounds and words, this is verbal communication. Some individuals have different behaviors where they try to express themselves to others without using spoken words, this is non verbal communication. Once nurses have the proper communication tools, techniques and evidence based practice, when communicating with their patient, they would get the necessary information needed from the patient to properly diagnosis them.

Timmons feels that “Role modelling good communication provides staff with informal support and leadership. Managers who have good communication skills create good working atmospheres that ultimately improve nurses’ confidence, motivation and morale” (2011, p. 32). Once everyone meets to confront the conflict the nurse manager should start the meeting with a list of ground rules and expectations. Everyone needs to express agreement with the ground rules before starting. Then, the nurse manager should verbalize something positive about the nursing group as a whole; this focuses everyone on a positive attribute they all share in common, which builds interpersonal bonding.
