Nursing informatics is continuously evolving field that began when computers were introduced into the healthcare field. Informatics practices support nurses as they seek to care for their patients efficiently and safely, by making the information that they need more readily available (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2015). Information technology and informatics is being incorporated into nursing school curriculum also the country, but the progression is slow. Staggers, Gassert, and Curran advocate that nursing students should be educated on nursing informatics competencies. Beginning nurses can implement nursing informatic skills and competencies into daily practice by being able to start the computer and successfully access and select applications needed to ensure optimal patient care. This is important for documentation purposes, medication administration and information about the patient to ensure quality care. Using data from the software about the patient is important, but in order for a beginning nurse to interpret the data correctly, they must be able to have the basic knowledge of the healthcare organization 's software. A nurse can collect data and chart it into the software so other healthcare professionals involved in the patient 's care can easily obtain accurate and legible information. Every time I enter the clinical setting I am amazed with the advancement of technology and how accessible the information is. Beginning nurses should be able to start the computer, access the organization’s software, access email, and collect and enter patient data into the information system. Nurses need a solid understanding of computers and basic knowledge of the healthcare organizations software. An informatics priority would be to improve clinical information systems throughout health care settings and to increase the nurse’s comfort level with computers. Once upon a time, my best friend, Bryan Martinez, often heard his mother’s medical conversations with friends. One day at school, our teacher confronted Mrs. Martinez and told her that she was able tell that Bryan was a son from a nurse. Apparently there was an incident at school where a little boy was acting out and Bryan told our teacher that the little boy was agitated, and to give him some medication to calm him down. As demonstrated by Bryan, nursing is ongoing profession that promotes the health and well-being of individuals.
A bachelor’s degree is required for this role, however, a master’s degree is recommended. The NI assumes both the technical roles which closely involve the design of information systems, and the less technical positions, such as project manager for the adoption of a new application or trainer of the users. They bring institutional knowledge and experience to the table when applications are designed to meet the needs of the users (AMIA, 2015). Nurses are viewed as knowledge workers regardless of their specialty. Nursing knowledge is generated by Nursing Informatics (NI), through the process of science and practice and using the theory of “data, information, knowledge, and wisdom.” The main goal of NI is to facilitate communication through innovated technology that will promote positive patient outcomes. NI, recognized by the American Nurses Association (ANA) in 1992, has increased the visibility and value of nursing practice. The implementation of the previously mentioned method promotes nursing beliefs, individualizes nursing care and implements nursing language (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to use the nursing informatics concepts to explore and understand ICU psychosis/delirium in order to provide evidence-practice that can limit its occurrences.
Licensed practical nurses (LPN 's) fill an important role in modern health care practices. According to the author, nursing practice needs to stay current with technological advances while keeping its identity as a patient focused profession. Nurses use technology to improve care from a patient?s perspective, both in quality of care and cost. At the same time, nurses must learn to balance technological knowledge with personal skills, thus providing optimum clinical care while maintaining a person-focused relationship with the patient.
Saying that you are a registered nurse is a broad statement. Registered nursing is a job that has many aspects. Registered nurses work in many different settings and they carry out many different routines. As a registered nurse you could be exposed to many different opportunities. My goal is to be a registered nurse but, I need to learn a lot. Becoming a being a registered nurse requires a lot of hard work and effort but, if I focus on my goal I will be able to achieve it.

It is a growing area of nursing specialty that combines computer science, information technology and nursing science in the management and processing of nursing information, data and knowledge with the sole objective of supporting nursing practice and research.
