The Essential Drucker is a compilation of Peter Drucker’s selected insights and writings on management for the past sixty years. The book has twenty-six selections which were divided into three parts: Management, Individual, and Society. The first section, Management, highlights the different ideas about management such as the origin and definition and its use and application in the business organization. The second part of the book focuses on the individual. This section talks about the principles that an individual can learn and imbibe, and what skills he or she must develop in order for him or her to effectively manage a business or an organization. The third section of the book concentrates on the society. After introducing and discussing …show more content…
This part of the book shows how the business or organization, and the individual managing it can be involved and can contribute to the external environment. Peter Drucker named this compilation The Essential Drucker because he chose and incorporated the most vital concepts from his works which would add value to the reader when it comes to managing the business or organization, managing one’s self, managing other managers, and managing subordinates.
Aside from learning how to manage myself specifically my time, I have also encountered some concepts that I believe are of use to Seaoil. One of these concepts is about communication. While reading the section entitled Communication Is Perception, Expectation, and Demand, I have had a deeper understanding of communication. Since then, I have learned that communication exists when the sender encodes a message for the receiver to receive, decode, and to be able to send a feedback after but what I have learned from

It was stated in section fifteen that more and more people in the workforce will have to manage themselves and have to place themselves where they can make the greatest contribution. The section A Challenge for Individuals also said that entrepreneurial society individuals face a challenge which is to exploit as an opportunity the need for continual learning and re-learning. This then made me think about the whole process of the program. The Management Trainee Program specifically Seaoil’s Management Trainee Program allows us fresh graduates, to know ourselves better by allowing us to have a deeper understanding of what and who we are as an individual, by making us discover our strengths, our own way of performing and accomplishing tasks and meeting goals, and assessing if our values align that of the company as well as letting us gather more information and store more knowledge. It will not only make us aware, understand, and experience the different departments and operations of the company. Upon starting, it first made me wonder why unlike other MT programs of other companies, we do not directly get immersed in the company’s operations and why do we even have to read a book and submit a book report. But after several sessions and after reading The Essential Drucker, I have realized that this MT program

Show MoreBrian Tracy once said, “Communication is a skill that you can learn. It 's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you 're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.” Communication is defined as the process of acting on information. Communicating is a very essential component of everyday life. According to the text book, the average person spends between eighty and ninety percent of their “waking time” communicating (Beebe 2). Communication improves our relationships as well as our overall health. Without communication, the human species would end because it is such a necessity. There are a variety of forms of communication including interpersonal, mass, public, small group and intrapersonal
The basic concept of communication is interaction between two or more people that results in the passing of information. However, for this process to happen effectively one must understand the different methods and standards required to achieve the process because without this knowledge one may miscommunicate information. Therefore, to assure that the receiver receives the information correctly one must understand the effects of interruptions and when backup your information for clarity (Wallace & Roberson, 2009).
Management is the ability to get a job done using appropriate processes, models and systems to achieve an objective. Managers think radically, abide by principles, rules and use experience in their respective fields to make things work. A good manager goes about the ordinary activities such a staffing, organizing, planning (Robert, 2007). The very ability of his/her colleague to discover the uniqueness in each of the subordinates, capitalize on it, harnessing the best out of them to accomplish goals clearly distinguishes such a person as great when compared to others. Great managers develop people and enthusiastically transfer acquired skills to others, work progress is constant and usually by leaps and bounds. In addition, a great manager outlines and strategizes his/her team for project plans such that there is a “buy in” on delivered commitments. In contrast, the former just transfers the required skills to subordinates; work progress is notable, vice versa of the latter. Rupert Murdoch of the News Corporation is ...

Communication is an ongoing process in which individuals exchange messages whose meanings are influenced by the history of the relationship and the experiences of the participants. (Adler, p.384) Communication depends on relationships between the people who are communicating, and on common basics between them. Problems in communications between people may arise due to differences in cultures, perceptions, values, and expectations from life.
People communicate to express needs, wishes and preferences, to share ideas and information, to reassure, express emotions like fear, anger, pain, joy and love, getting to know each other, ask questions, share experience’s , gave instructions, share opinion, give encouragement. The nature of communication is very different dependent on the circumstances.
Things have changed in the business world since Peter Druckers early years. Most of the changes that have occurred were of no surprise to him. His knowledge of management and the functions of organizations is truly amazing. In the novel, The Definitive Drucker, by Elizabeth Edersheim, Drucker’s ideas on collaboration and leadership stood out to me. Within collaboration, there needs to be a very high level of communication and the correct skills. Leadership is critical to any organization and it involves personality along with the ability to make decisions. These concepts of leadership and collaboration can be directly applied to myself and my team. Looking at myself concerning these topics has allowed me to see where I can improve.
According to Peter F. Drucker the fundamental task of management is, “to make people capable of joint performance through common goals, common values, the right structure, and the training and development they need to perform and respond to change”. There are many different definitions for the term management, but what better one coming from “the man who invented management”. Drucker is seen as the father of management therefore I believe his definition of management stands to be the most correct one. Druckers views were the first of its kind in terms of management. While the world changes day-by-day Peter Druckers definition and view on management has been with us since he first introduced it to us. As he states in his first chapter, “Management as Social Function and Liberal Art”, Drucker believes that management within itself is a liberal art and this is why Drucker would approve of the core curriculum used here at Oglethorpe.
Communication is the process of conveying information to each another using words, actions, or by writing the information down to be read by another person. Communication is something that most people do at some point each day, and is an important part of life especially in a working environment. “The concept of communication is an essential part of every profession, and it is required to foster and maintain healthy relationships”( Jasmine, 2009, para. 1).

Organisation is the most important element in management. Any organization is located and operated in the environment. Every action of all organizations is possible only if it allows its realization. The internal environment is the source of its vitality. It involves the capacity needed for the functioning of the organization, but at the same time can be a source of problems and even her death of the organisation. The external environment is the source that supply organization resources. The organization is in constant exchange with the external environment consequently it provides itself with survival. The main objective of this work is to consider elements of the internal and external environment of the organization which are in a constant
Over the past hundred years management has continuously been evolving. There have been a wide range of approaches in how to deal with management or better yet how to improve management functions in our ever changing environment. From as early as 1100 B.C managers have been struggling with the same issues and problems that manager’s face today. Modern managers use many of the practices, principles, and techniques developed from earlier concepts and experiences.
Communication is an interdependent process of sending, receiving, and understanding messages. The definition implies that the components of the communication process cannot be examined separately. Rather, the relationship exists between the sender and the receiver, as well as the environment of the communication event, must be viewed as a whole. According to this perspective, if any of the components and circumstances change (that is, the number of individuals involved in the interaction, seating arrangements, or the time of the day) the communication event is altered. Communication is an ongoing process; we never stop sending and receiving messages. As we will discover, communication is a dynamic process, a process that changes from one communication setting to the next. Although it is difficult to predict, the ways of interpreting communication, certain components are always present in the communication process.
Management is vital for any organisations regardless of the size and the types of the organisations. In general, management is defined as “the application of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling functions in the most efficient manner possible to accomplish meaningful organizational objectives.” (John M. Ivancevish and Thomas N. Duening, 2007)
