About 4 years ago I made the conscious decision to live a healthier lifestyle. I decided almost as an experiment to change my eating habits, start exercising on a regular basis, cut back on drinking alcohol and to try to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. I wanted to see if it made any impact on how I felt both mentally and physically. After maintaining these new habits for a couple of months I realized how much happier, calmer and healthier I felt. I also noticed that I personally respond very positively to having a schedule that I follow everyday. In the beginning the whole process of changing how I lived was not easy but eventually I felt amazing. Four years later and I am still seeing the positive aftereffects of living this way and have made even more …show more content…
It has become second nature to me and I do not think I will ever go back to my old unhealthy habits. On a regular week I get about 7-8 hours of sleep and I work out in some capacity 7 days a week. I have 5 days where I exercise for at least 30 minutes a day and on the other two days I do 15 – 20 minutes. Since making the decision to be healthier I am at the point now where I need to be active everyday even if its just a quick 15 minute session, it helps me start my day on the right foot and keeps me balanced. I thoroughly enjoy working out and because it brings me pleasure it ends up being a stress reducer for me (Sapolsky, 2010, p.261). Unfortunately work lately has been a source of stress in my life and I have been trying to make it a priority to find ways to reduce my anxiety. That usually means being around my fiancé, playing with my dog and
Previously coming to the United States, I used to stay up late at night to study and wake up early in the morning. This was a disaster to my health that could origin me to get sick simply. When I decided to come to America, I prepared up my mind and was firm to maintain a healthy schedule and lifestyle. For example, I love and appreciate the American-style meal which contains a fresh salad instead of cooked vegetables. This routine of cooking vegetables aids me to get more vitamins from it. This lifestyle also taught me to eat healthy and clean food. It motivated me to work out consistently. It influenced me to be consistent. As a result, I can sense that I am becoming healthier and healthier day by
I was tired of being overweight, feeling tired all the time, and I wanted to get my confidence back, I knew in order to do that I would have to make a lifestyle change. All throughout my life I have never had to watch my weight or worry about my eating habits. I have always been able to eat all kinds of different foods unhealthy or healthy it never mattered because of my high metabolism. I never stopped to think of the effects or the problems I could obtain over time if I kept eating the same way. However, after being deeply affected by this semester by my own food journal, The Food Inc. movie, and The Eater Reader I now have a better sense of wisdom and better understanding of the types of foods I was putting into my body, and have stopped drinking carbonation but with the lack of time I will not be able to give up my eating habits up.

My parents know that soda makes my stomach much bigger and they motivated me to change this habit. I used to drink a lot soda with chips, french fries, chicken and pizza. Something important that made me find out is, when we people like something, then, continuously start eating the same food for a very long time until we start disliking them. Since, I have drank soda for a long time, now I feel the same taste and the taste became old to me. My parents motivation and own realization made me accomplishing this habit. I believe, Human are creatures of habit. Overtime, We buy the same foods from the same grocery store, prepare the same recipes over and over. But, if we are serious about eating healthier and losing weight, then, it is possible to change those bad eating habits until it is too late. In order to maintain a healthy behavior, first one should start to prepare for it. However, in order to achieve these goals of health and fitness is really about involving in healthy behaviors on a daily routine basis. It does not matter how small the habit is, over time they can have a huge effect on an individual’s health. Therefore, we have to be serious about changing our lifestyle in order to achieve the goal.
Eating behaviour is a complex behaviour that involves a vast array of factors which has a great impact on the way we choose our meals. Food choice, like an other behaviour, is influenced by several interrelated factors. While hunger seems to drive our ways of food consumption, there are things outside of our own bodies that influence our food choices and the way in which we eat. The way we eat is controlled by and is a reflection of our society and cultures. I explore this idea through a food diary I created over a few weeks and the observations made by several anthropologists that I have studied.
I was never conscious about my health till high school. It was during high school that I developed a mental model. I learned the consequences of the food that I consume daily. I often ate fast foods and soon I started to gain weight. I gain this weight very quickly and my activity level went down drastically. My weight gain affected my confidence and that’s when I began to be aware of my health in a positive way. I stopped eating fast foods, I worked out everyday and soon I was back to my normal weight. This experience has taught me what it means to take care of your body. My mental model begin with my weight struggle and it turned into me having a healthy life style.
When I walk into Tower Dining, I always glance toward the salad bar and the vegetarian options in the kitchen, but most of the time I pass them up to pile garbage on my plate. I want to eat nutritious food, and every once in awhile I’ll eat a meal centered around nutrition and feel really good about myself, but then that night I’ll retire to my room and eat five cookies and an entire bag of cheesy popcorn. This assignment helped open my eyes to what I was actually eating (and what I wanted to eat when I knew I was being watched), and it did make me want to eat better, at least on the days when I had an assignment. Ultimately, I’ve had enough education to know that eating nutritious food and living a more active lifestyle will give me a longer, healthier life, and I want that because there’s a lot I have to do on this Earth, and I can’t do it all in sixty years. I’m going to need around ninety healthy years, and that’s low balling it. There’s no way I’m going to reach that goal if I continue to eat as I do on a daily basis. The habits I set for myself now will follow me into my adult life, good or bad. I need to make sure that they’re good ones, ones that will create a strong base upon which I can build the rest of my life. Thanks to this assignment, I had to look my priorities dead in the eye and evaluate them. Is the taste of a chicken strip basket really worth all the fat and sodium I’m putting into my body when I

First, a quick look at diets again, which require many changes in food and food habits, either right away or in a week or two while you remove all the items from your kitchen that are not allowed anymore, and you buy the new foods you need. In addition, these are not some minor changes, they can be strict calorie limitations and avoidances of whole food groups; a comparison of diets to a boot camp is pretty accurate. To be fair, most people who want to lose weight want that diet to work fast and work like magic, and to lose weight fast you pretty much have to (severely) limit carbs and calories and completely change your food habits. Not surprisingly, diets fail because either people can 't handle the food boot camp and give up the diet or

...to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, the adequate amount of exercise is of at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) of moderate intense aerobic physical activity per week (HHS). During the first week, my activity level was low due to stress and the new session starting. I would just go to college, come home, and study. Managing time was difficult. However, as the week passed by, I was able to assign some time to exercise and joined the gym during the second week. My activity level for the second week was moderate. I would go to the gym three days in a week and work on the weekends. In the three days when I was in gym, I allotted 20 minutes for cardio and distributed 30-50 minutes on weights, different machines, and exercises. Therefore, I think my activity level was adequate. Exercising helps me to stay fit, stress-free, active, and more energetic
My personal health has been something I constantly think about. Whether it’s myself, my parents, my doctor, or others that bring it up, I’m reminded that I need to eat healthier or exercise more, etc. I know that I need to get better about what I eat and try to work more exercise into my daily routine, I just find it hard to find the motivation to go and actually accomplish what I know that I need to do. Especially in today’s society where we’re surrounded by a lot of non-healthy food, and getting access to healthy food is more expensive than the latter, it’s hard to make the better choice and choose the healthy option. I’m hoping now that I’m in college that I’m able to get better at taking care of myself than I have in the past.
While I was tracking my eating for these three days, I began to learn about the benefits of the food that I am eating and the nourishment that they provide for my body. I had never realized how big of a role that the food that I eat plays in my everyday life. Eating has never been something that I really think about it is just something that I do. After I looking at the data of what I eat on Choose My Plate, I realized that my eating habits are far from balanced and that I needed to work on bringing my eating habits to a better balance. While there are a lot of things that I have been doing right, there are also many things that I can work on.
