Food is one of the necessities of life in order to survive. Everyone has different views on what to eat and different eating habits. People are so busy in their everyday life that they don’t keep track of what they eat on a daily basis. However, it is important to understand the role of nutrition. Nutrition and exercise are vital to maintain physical health. Proper nutrition is required by our body for energy, growth, maintenance, and repair (Grodner, Roth, & Walkingshw, 2012). Even the brain requires nutrients in order for a person to be intellectually healthy. Along with nutrition, exercise can be controlled by an individual. Exercise helps to strengthen bones and muscles, control weight, improves mental health and mood, reduces risk for cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and some cancers, and overall increases the chances of living longer (CDC). For this assignment, I kept a food journal by tracking what I ate and the amount of exercise on a daily basis on a food tracker for three weeks. The purpose of that was to analyze my diet and exercise in more depth in order to determine the amount of vitamins, minerals, fat, protein, carbohydrates, and calories I am eating daily. Based on the results, I made some modifications. Analyzing the First Two Weeks While comparing my daily food intake to what is recommended, some of the results were shocking. After using the BMI calculator, I determined that my BMI is 20.5, which is in the normal range (BMI). For the first two weeks, my calorie intake on a daily basis was 2400. The amount of calories you eat will have an effect on weight gain or weight loss. The recommended daily calorie intake is 2200 for women between the ages 19 through 24 (Grodner et al., 2012). The purpose of writing this paper is to discuss the pros and cons of my diet. The nutritional analysis have thought me that my choices are not terrible but they are not the beast. However, a healthy lifestyle is necessary if I want to enjoy this life without health complications. Always Including some form of vegetable, fruits, and carbohydrates in my diet is ideal. Seeing the food log and the analysis helped me have a better understanding of what I put into my body and what my body needs on a daily basis as far as energy and nutrients. Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. While I was tracking my eating for these three days, I began to learn about the benefits of the food that I am eating and the nourishment that they provide for my body. My estimated energy requirement calories that I should be consuming on daily is about 2,318. My average EER on my daily dietary log averaged to about 700 calories a day. I started to eat a lot of whole grain foods, vegetables, and fruits to lower my BMI and eat the daily EER calories I need to lose weight and start to feel healthy. My exercises are moderate and I do a lot of low intense cardio training to keep my muscles strong and active without being in too much pain every day. My grandfather as he is getting older needs to watch what he eats because of his gout. This is a form of arthritis disease that older people will sometimes get. Gout is painful and will inflame the joints in on your body and this happens when too much uric acid crystallizes and deposits to the joints.
