#BlackLivesMatter The Black Lives Matter movement was a movement that started after the killing of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager. This twitter hashtag turned into a massive movement that has opened up America’s eyes and has given us evidence for all the things that African Americans have been through for centuries. Now that everyone has a camera phone and some form of social media we are able to get these incidents on video and the world can know in seconds. It started off as a hashtag to get justice for the death of Trayvon Martin but has slowly progressed into protests and marches to get justice for all African Americans and the injustices we face. Many view it as us trying to bring more division in America and cause unnecessary violence. The co-host of “Fox and Friends” Elizabeth Hasselbeck says, “Kevin, why has the Black Lives Matter movement not been classified as a hate group? How much more has to go in this direction before someone actually labels it as such?” There are many people that think this way about the Black Lives Matter movement. The people that have this mindset believe that this movement is trying to cover the fact that history is only being repeated. The same thing that happened to Biko, happened to Bland. Another example is the killings of unarmed black men and the lynchings and burnings of black men in the 1900s. In 1963 the church bombing is Birmingham, Alabama which resulted in the killing of four black girls. Trayvon Martin who was killed by the neighborhood watchman Geroge Zimmerman because he was “standing his ground” to Martin. Martin walking back from the corner store with his candy and Arizona killed because of his skin color. Both incidents of these African Americans being killed because of their skin color. At some point African Americans are going to start fighting back and now that we are fighting back we are being labeled a hate group. It has brought awareness to other groups that experience injustices. The main group that experiences as many injustices as blacks and have been with the movement since it started is the LGBT movement. Which helps the movement grow bigger and get more support. With the support this Black Lives Matter movement has gained they have started to accomplish many things. These cases of the killings of unarmed African Americans are starting to be investigated more carefully and accurately. Although the police officers have yet to be arrested and sentenced for the crimes they are committing, the cases are being actually being investigated. There are promises of police reform but we will have to see it to believe. Case being investigated and changes being made is due to the support of the Black Lives Matter
