#BlackLivesMatter The Black Lives Matter movement was a movement that started after the killing of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager. This twitter hashtag turned into a massive movement that has opened up America’s eyes and has given us evidence for all the things that African Americans have been through for centuries. Now that everyone has a camera phone and some form of social media we are able to get these incidents on video and the world can know in seconds. Many view it as us trying to bring more division in America and cause unnecessary violence. The co-host of “Fox and Friends” Elizabeth Hasselbeck says, “Kevin, why has the Black Lives Matter movement not been classified as a hate group? How much more has to go in this direction before someone actually labels it as such?” There are many people that think this way about the Black Lives Matter movement. The people that have this mindset believe that this movement is trying to cover the fact that history is only being repeated. The same thing that happened to Biko, happened to Bland. Another example is the killings of unarmed black men and the lynchings and burnings of black men in the 1900s. In 1963 the church bombing is Birmingham, Alabama which resulted in the killing of four black girls. Trayvon Martin who was killed by the neighborhood watchman Geroge Zimmerman because he was “standing his ground” to Martin. Martin walking back from the corner store with his candy and Arizona killed because of his skin color. Both incidents of these African Americans being killed because of their skin color. At some point African Americans are going to start fighting back and now that we are fighting back we are being labeled a hate group. It has brought awareness to other groups that experience injustices. The main group that experiences as many injustices as blacks and have been with the movement since it started is the LGBT movement. Which helps the movement grow bigger and get more support. With the support this Black Lives Matter movement has gained they have started to accomplish many things. These cases of the killings of unarmed African Americans are starting to be investigated more carefully and accurately. Although the police officers have yet to be arrested and sentenced for the crimes they are committing, the cases are being actually being investigated. There are promises of police reform but we will have to see it to believe. Case being investigated and changes being made is due to the support of the Black Lives Matter
The Black Lives Matter Movement was started as a hash tag after the death of Travon Marten. Its founders Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza helped it grow into a movement. Unlike the Black Panther Party of the 1960s this group is not calling for the black community to pick up arms. Today there are many controversial subjects discussed throughout the media. One of the most discussed is race and the Black Lives Matter movement. Recently, I came across an article titled “The Truth of ‘Black Lives Matter’”, written by The Editorial Board. The article was published on September 3, 2015, to the New York Times. In the article, The Editorial Board writes about what they believe African Americans are facing as challenges in society today, including the all-too-common police killings of unarmed African-Americans across the country. Black lives matter is a social media movement that went of the Ferguson, Gardner cases etc. Also very rapidly it was to show as a opposition to the police and cops. Somehow when saying black lives matter it was like saying all life matter don’t matter. It’s a touchy subject due to why people view things and for most case I can understand. I feel that the person that made black life’s matter didn’t mean for it to be just all about black life but to inform others around the nation that there is a special problem that is only happening in the African American community and we have fix that issue . we as a society has to recognize this that the African American are not making this up this its not something being politicalized its real and there’s a history behind it so we have to seriously.

There are people in America that makes us wonder why there is a world to begin with. There are people who represent the greater good of the world, and there are others who are unfortunately not for the greater good of the world. We have to constantly deal with those whose only goal in life is to bring the lives of others down to the ground; to shatter and to break them. This is what is happening now in the world, and this most likely will never change. Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement was created to show the injustices that were being taken against the African American community. What no one was able to predict was the fact BLM started to actually discriminate and overlook members of their own race due to subtle differences like gender or sexual orientation. This type of overlook had to be correct by the BLM community in order to show solidarity inside the movement in order not to overlook anyone inside the African American race.
The Black Panther Party has politically impacted life for the black African American community overall, using their civil liberties and voice to stand up and protect their own people from police brutality is what started the Black Panther Party. The Majority of Blacks were impoverished, they lived in poor neighborhoods with increased crime and violence. Neither the government or any organizations did anything to help the African American people, many just did not care about how Africans Americans were being degraded and mistreated. They decided to change their community, take charge and fight back. The organization was created to try to gain and control their political power, and stop police brutality. The Black Panther Party made blacks more progressive in trying to be more equal and more willing to fight for justice. Their self-determination to come together and stand up for themselves, as one was a stepping-stone for blacks to fight for themselves and the good of their people, also to make sure blacks could be treated equal both socially and politically in society.
This movement is about the equality of African Americans and saying that their lives matter just as much as other races who get more rights and freedom. This movement has gone on since the time of Martin Luther King Jr. In society, African Americans are lesser than whites and are given less rights, but in the Black Lives Matter movement, not only African Americans, but also many other races are going against what society says and protesting for rights from which they deserve. Overall, many believe that the undeviating war on racism in today’s society is fueled by police brutality and anti-police violence. Specifically, the Black Lives Matter movement, which is the source of controversy regarding these topics. To summarize, this campaign is “both a hashtag and a political project that formed after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the 2012 killing of Trayvon Martin.” (Miller). Later in the article Chelsea Fuller, senior communications associate at The Advancement Project, a multi-racial civil rights organization, states “The Black Lives Matter movement is to deal with anti-black racism, to “push for black people’s right to live with dignity and respect” and be included in the American democracy that they helped create” (Miller).
When a person thinks about Black Lives Matter, he or she may visualize African Americans fighting for justice and equality. The movement Black Lives Matter was created to bring awareness to systematic racism, police brutality and social injustice that African Americans face on a daily basis. In contrary, All Lives Matter downplays the fact that black people are looked down upon in society. All Lives Matter may seem like an innocent title, but it emphasizes that justice for black people is not necessary. Black Lives Matter is not a movement that believes all lives do not matter; nevertheless, it highlights the fact that black lives are taken for granted by the judicial system.
Black Lives Matter is not a bandwagon to hop on, nor is it a hashtag or a slogan. Black Lives Matter is a movement. To not support the movement or to think that the movement does not need support is outright depraved, demeaning and degrading. We too often think that retweeting, tweeting or sharing a photo on social media is supporting the movement and it’s not! This is no longer the 1960’s. We have gained our rights: that is no longer the fight. The fight is receiving justice for our black people, so no effective protesting is no longer sitting at countertops, it is no longer peaceful marching and it is no longer bus boycotting The new protest is to educate ourselves, to show respect, to get involved in the justice system, to raise black lawyers, to vote and to do jury duty. All of these things are needed to benefit the movement in stopping the corruptness in our justice system.
I truly feel that the outraged party are missing the concept of the whole movement. Black Lives Matter is necessary movement that is not saying the other lives do not, and it should continue until that unspoken social tension is resolved. With movements such as all live matters there has been a lot of tension.There have been riots and with that, outrage is completely understandable and outrage should be felt unanimously across America for these barbaric acts of vandalism and violence.
