I have enjoyed reading, Academic Leadership and Governance of Higher Education and Budgets and Financial Management in Higher Education. I believe a lot of people take the work that facilities have to take care of manage for granted. I agree with Hendrickson, Lane, Harris, and Dorman, when they stated that most scholars look at the 3 components of higher education to be teaching, research, and service (Hendrickson, Lane, Harris, & Dorman, 2013). It is interesting though that higher education is made up of other parts that are just as important. The auxiliary services that support and institution are just as important because of the revenue that some of them generate as well. There has to be a balance as to how these components work together. I like how MSU is not a research 1, however, I know that when it comes to tenure that there has to be a balance between teaching, publishing, and service.

I also believe that there needs to be a better job of ensuring that our international students are successful on our campuses. We recruit the students here, but I don’t believe we do a good job with ensuring that they are socialized to our campus. We have seen a huge increase in students from Saudi Arabia, but I don’t believe we understand their culture enough to ensure that the students can transition and be successful as students.

Racial diversity is a desired concept that intends to secure the right of equal opportunity that is promised to all citizens of the United States. Such an idealistic vision has been attempted through a process called affirmative action. As a program created from the 14th Amendment, affirmative action aims to impose “equal protection of the laws” by requiring schools to adopt a quota for the enrollment of minorities. This program is intended to compensate for the centuries of discrimination that minorities have faced, but affirmative action has became problematic as it has failed to do this. Affirmative action is not the solution to ensure equal opportunity for minorities to access higher education. Although affirmative action has increased diversity in selective schools, it defeats its purpose because the resulting diversity is not equal representation of the nation’s communities , the process has led to reverse discrimination, and the education standard has been lowered in the selective schools.

Affirmative action policies were created to help level the playing field in American society. Supporters claim that these plans eliminate economic and social disparities to minorities, yet in doing so, they’ve only created more inequalities. Whites and Asians in poverty receive little to none of the opportunities provided to minorities of the same economic background (Messerli). Over the course of my professional career in different organizations in the past three years, I have worked under many managers. This has been a learning curve for me to understand the different managing styles and leadership characteristics of people. One of the managers whom I worked under, was the lead in a government project which also happened to be my last project before I took a break for continuing my studies, is a person I admire till date. I learned several life lessons in addition to the technical subject associated with the industry. This paper demonstrates the leadership styles exhibited by my manager with suitable examples.
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Leadership is found not just at work but all around us. In any situation, leaders take a step forward and take charge of the situation. It can be at home, at work or at any other place. Leaders are never born, they become leaders because they have the credibility and people would love to follow them.
On Tuesday, September first I met with my academic advisor, Dr. Ana Londono for the first time. We met in her office on the first floor of Young Hall. She informed me that it was only her third week as an advisor at Lindenwold University. I was a bit nervous after hearing that because my major is Pre-Nursing and I had a lot of questions to ask. One of my main reason of making an appointment with my advisor was to ask when I would be able to apply for nursing school. I took a lot of college credit classes in high school. So Dr. Londono and I went over my high school transcript and figured out what classes I had already taken. Lindenwood has a great connection with Goldfarb School of Nursing.
