I have enjoyed reading, Academic Leadership and Governance of Higher Education and Budgets and Financial Management in Higher Education. I believe a lot of people take the work that facilities have to take care of manage for granted. I agree with Hendrickson, Lane, Harris, and Dorman, when they stated that most scholars look at the 3 components of higher education to be teaching, research, and service (Hendrickson, Lane, Harris, & Dorman, 2013). It is interesting though that higher education is made up of other parts that are just as important. The auxiliary services that support and institution are just as important because of the revenue that some of them generate as well. There has to be a balance as to how these components work together. I like how MSU is not a research 1, however, I know that when it comes to tenure that there has to be a balance between teaching, publishing, and service.

I also believe that there needs to be a better job of ensuring that our international students are successful on our campuses. We recruit the students here, but I don’t believe we do a good job with ensuring that they are socialized to our campus. We have seen a huge increase in students from Saudi Arabia, but I don’t believe we understand their culture enough to ensure that the students can transition and be successful as students.
In Budgets and Financial Management in Higher Education, there are laws in place that prohibit discrimination in admission and employment (Barr & McClellan, 2010). The one thing that I appreciate that the Council on Postsecondary Education implemented through the Council of Equal Opportunity, is to assess to see how well the public institution in the state are doing as it relates to requirement and retention of diverse faculty, staff, and
