Sustainability is quite simple: Everything that we need in order to survive solely depends on our natural environment. Earth is our home and no one should have a problem with taking care of their home. But the fact that everyone doesn’t see it that way causes problems such as air pollution and water pollution which leads to bigger problems like human health therefore the environment has everything to do with human health. Sustainability creates and maintains quality conditions for humans and nature so we can all live in peace and harmony, whether it’s a social concern, an economic concern or any other concern; sustainability meets the needs of the present generation without jeopardizing future generations. Sustainability is vital to our future because it ensures that we can continuously have, water, materials, and resources to protect human health and our environment.
Little did I know, “cities are responsible for around two-thirds of the energy used, sixty percent of all water consumed and seventy percent of all greenhouse gases produced worldwide” (Matt Cole). It seems as if the little things that we do everyday can impact the environment, whether we’re helping or hurting our planet. There are ways we can restrain from completely destroying our home. One step at time to better our lives if it takes days, weeks, months, years, decades; a century no matter how long it takes we should want the best for mankind. Although we’ve been cleaning up pollution from the mistakes we’ve made in the past, the next step for us should be preventing pollution at its focal point.
