Personality plays a pivotal role in helping individuals find job opportunities that suit them. However, some individuals struggle with finding the right career path and therefore, turn to the aid of personality tests. Personality tests alleviate this confusion by providing a series of questions to help categorize an individual’s personality into a four-letter type. With sixteen possible options, these personality types clarify the most likely successful areas for an individual career. Personally, I have been able to utilize personality tests as well as several programs to help identify a job I am particularly passionate to pursue. My outcome indicates that I express strong extrovert qualities, moderate expression, strong feeling, and moderate judgement. In the beginning, I did not truly understood the meaning of my personality test results. After further investigation, I learned that the ESFJ portrays “dependability, dedication, and commitment to providing for the needs of others (CareerTest, 2017) .” They enjoy caring for individuals as well as assuming leadership positions. I learned that the ESFJ relies strongly on feelings when making decisions. People with ESFJ personality type tend to struggle with balancing right and wrong decisions. However, they strongly lead with their hearts rather than their heads, which can sometimes lead them to make quick judgements rather than contemplating the circumstance (CareerTest, 2017)(Humanmetrics, 1971). I believe that the traits common with ESFJ are closely match my own. As an extrovert, I love meeting new people as well as spending large quantities of time with the people I love and I often feel most energized with large groups of people. I entered college as a business major because I felt that I could make an acceptable income postgraduate and I could force myself to find a area within business where I could succeed. However, the more I explored different business careers, the less I wanted to pursue one. I knew deep down that I had a strong connection to working with children and therefore, felt that I should look into careers that match my personality. Having completed the Myers-Briggs Personality Test previously, I was identified as an INTP, which stands for introverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. Accordingly, this personality is often labeled as “The Architect” or “The Logician.” Despite my previous results, I repeated the test as instructed in the assignment. When I was nine, I started my very first job babysitting my neighbor’s three children. While this may not seem like a real job, by the time I was ten, the babysitting commitment increased to three days after school, most Friday nights and usually at least one weekend day. After school I watched six children ranging from 1-6 years old. Soon I was recruiting a friend to help me, for a cut of my pay, in order to take the kids to the park! While babysitting started my work for pay career, I have worked the last 34 years in different careers; child care, retail, waitressing, bartending, alternative medicine and biotechnology. Throughout my career a couple themes have consistently come through as feedback; hardworking, dedicated, outgoing and a team oriented person. I will do whatever the job takes and drive until completion. While I thought this was very admirable, I stopped focusing on professional development from the perspective of continuous education.
In the vast and detailed world of psychology, there are a variety of different tests you can participate in. For example, you can participate in aptitude, verbal or numerical reasoning, and psychometric tests. These tests assess on a variety of different situations such as: behaviors, abilities and intelligence. Personality tests, a common and favored test, measure things such as: behavioral style, opinions, motivators, personal values and career interests. Most often, people complain or disagree with the score of some areas on their personality test; however, there are no right or wrong answers. After completing this personality test and reviewing the results, I found that the overall scoring accurately described me in most areas. The Big Five Personality test scores in five different areas involving openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism.
Extroverted people are more socially oriented. ESFP personalities are also sensory based; remembering events as snapshots with a tendency to be pragmatic. (Martin, 1997) They are often in-tune with their feelings which can lead them to be empathetic and tactful communicators, but struggle with addressing conflict. According to The Myers and Briggs Foundation, their perceiving aspect can cause them to work in “bursts of energy”, bringing a playful aspect to work, but can cause them to be indecisive when it is most needed.
Derek, I too have worked in the financial industry for some time. My field took me into the brokerage field helping individuals understand the market or to help plan for their retirement. In this field, not only were we required to learn all the CPA and brokerage laws, but we were also required to learn all the banking laws that went in place with it. I absolutely agree that in this environment everything that leads to job dissatisfaction is obvious and ever growing. Even in my most recent position right now, we are heavily regulated and forced to do things that sometimes we aren’t even as comfortable doing all in the name of making money, but it culminates into this peaked pile of “low pay, increased worked loads, lack of promotions, and excessive stress on the job.” (Robbins, 2013)
Extrovert and Introvert and Judgment and Perception seem interchangeable to my personality and may be viewed as unerringly the two sides of one coin for me. The test declared me the "Persuader" type and elaborated that the ENFJ type is an outstanding leader of groups and may be aggressive at helping others be the best that they can be. It also states that this personality type is 2.5% of the total population. I find this to be poignantly true. Whenever I find myself butting heads with those close to me, or those I have taken special interest in helping, it is because of this "aggressiveness" or passion that others misconstrue as me trying to "run their lives". This can be quiet frustrating because my "aggressiveness" comes from an altruistic place of wanting to help and not from a need to control.

I believe that these test if taken truthfully can identify deficiencies that individuals can work on to benefit not only themselves but others in the organizations that they work in. Some models state that it is in human nature and chemicals that decided how a person acts but I believe it is based on life experiences and a personality can change as long as a person knows the deficiencies and works to change them.
