My interest in pharmacology started at a young age, I used to visit my mother’s pharmacy often, and remember how fascinated I was with medications and always asked her what each one does and why it is important. Her answers used to amaze me but at the same time not satisfy me. To understand pharmacology, I began having an interest in chemistry and human biology, so I started reading books on those subjects more often in my free time. My interest shaped my way to get into sciences in my undergraduate university education. My major in chemistry allowed me explore in-depth many chemical properties, chemical reactions at different levels and their products, and interactions with the environment and the aftermath. It also allowed me to demonstrate many of these reactions and their effect in the laboratory sessions offered with these undergraduate courses. One of the memorable laboratory sessions that I took was making aspirin. During the process, I became fascinated with the chemical reaction that was going on and the product that it produced. Knowing that aspirin first synthesized by Felix Hoffman in 1897, the actual mechanism of action that produced the effects known to human body was not known until 1971, when John Vane discovered it, and until the 1980s did aspirin became known as an anti-clotting agent and used as a preventative measure …show more content…

This laboratory that specializes in testing contaminants in soil and water samples offered me many opportunities in learning different testing methods, the acceptable guidelines, the process of what happens to the sample from receiving to the final report and most importantly the value of time and accuracy of data reported. Being a member in the organic department, I learned how to extract the volatile compounds from a sample and testing it using Gas chromatography-Mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) instrument to detect if these compounds are present, to which levels they are at, and produce a report explaining the results. My knowledge, hard work and passion prompted me as a chosen candidate for two audits done by different third-party companies, where I excelled in both, and got awarded position advancement from analyst I to analyst II in one year. Another important trait that I gained during my work with Maxxam Analytics is, problem solving. This was present with everyday issues faced regarding instrumentation, how to resolve the problem in a timely manner and produce quality data when required. In addition, the challenge was also present when an unusual sample matrix gets received, where extraction and the proper analysis needed were investigated to
