People all around the world experience cultural diversity. Culture can vary within a small region as well as within a big region. Culture resembles one’s habit, behavior, manner and their capacity to adopt in society. We live in the same world called Earth but there is a different culture. There are different kinds of religion such as Hindu, Christian, Muslim and other. People are divided into the religion but they all have red blood. In some countries, people from other religion are discriminated by society. As per Mr. Parajuli, everything is different between Nepal and USA peoples have different cultural rules and values. We know people within the same country have a different culture but he travels from the very far region. According to Mr. Parajuli At first, it was very hard for him to adopt difference in time and climate here in the southern region it 's hot and has lots of humidity. As per Mr. Parajuli because of cultural different he suffered most regarding food. He used to have a heavy meal, lunch like rice, curry, pickles and much more but none American people eat those they eat a sandwich burger and other types of food. At first, it was really difficult for him later he moved to his own apartment and now he can cook what he like. Throughout history, there have been various perspectives of multicultural differences. According to Meriam Webster (n.d.), culture is “the beliefs, customs, arts, institutions, and the thoughts or products of a particular society or group.” Unfortunately, African Americans, Native Americans, Italians, Irish, Jews as well as various other cultural groups have been profoundly discriminated against and negatively stereotyped (Good Therapy org.). With the frequent mingling of cultures in educational settings, the workplace, and in the social arena, we are bound to encounter cultural differences.
Our families eat in different places. “My parents served all five of us children off of a single platter.” (Ahmedi, 9) In Afghani culture, the people and families are all rather poor so they can not afford furniture so they all eat on the floor. Dental professionals have a commitment to respect diversity and create equity of access to dental care for everyone (GDC, 2014). Diversity describes any dimension that can be used to differentiate an individual from others. It requires understanding that each individual is unique and accepting and respecting these individual differences (QCC,2013). These differences could be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, age, socio-economic status or other ideologies (QCC, 2013). Understanding the impact that these differences may pose is vital in dealing professionally with people from diverse backgrounds and delivering equal treatment for all. Equality refers to identical treatment in dealings quantitates and values (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Thus, creating equality for all might not mean that there are no disparities between different groups. Equity on the other hand refers to fairness and the equality of outcomes and involves recognizing aspects of a system that may disadvantage a certain group and correcting them (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Therefore, in order to overcome potential pitfalls that may create inequity to access, there is a need to explore the different factors encountered in our diverse society that may create these issues. As an example, patients from different ethnic backgrounds may be faced with barriers accounting for the less frequent use of dental care (CQC. 2010). This group will be used as an example and some of the issues behind this inequity of access will be looked at further.
The differences observed in society can be seen in almost every aspect of life and can separate every human from another through choice and perception. Considering a simplistic example where one driver in the United States drives on the right side of the road, compared to a European driver that drives on the left side of the road.
