The Paleo Diet is one of the most recent diets to gain attention amongst the American public. This diet follows a strict set of guidelines that form your diet into that of a caveman or woman. Acceptable foods include meats, fish, seeds, nuts, leafy greens, and regional veggies. Grains are excluded from this diet because people of the “Paleo” period were hunter-gatherers, and they did not cultivate crops (grains). It is thought that our bodies never acclimated to eating all of these grains when farming became a consistent source of food. So the Paleo Diet is an effort to return your body to the muscular, fit, quick, and versatile state that was the norm back then.
The Paleo Diet is important to nutrition and health because it follows a path
The Paleo Diet is easier to stay committed to than some other diets because it is possible to even eat Paleo on campus. Although, the one catch some college students may find difficult is the elimination of alcohol from their diets. If a college student can get past the no alcohol intake, the student would see benefits such as increased energy, reduced fat, more muscle, and improved agility. Other than the obvious health benefits there are some attributes to the Paleo Diet that some college students may find intriguing. The diet does not require you to eat a strict 3 meals a day, which is not common among college students already. Many college students tend to eat one or two big meals a day and that is considered to be unhealthy because it slows your metabolism, but on the Paleo Diet it is encouraged that you eat however much you want and when you want. Also for those who are Gluten-Free, Organic, or Lactose intolerant this diet supports the eating habits they already live by. Many college students-athletes across the country could take their game to the next level and not have to leave the campus for meals or other supplements (saving money at the same time). I was skeptical before doing research but I have come to the conclusion that this would be a good diet for me or any other collage student looking to improve their
The first diet I choose to look at was the Bulletproof diet (the one my brother is following) started by Dr. David Perlmutter. Bulletproof is the more extreme version of Paleo even if Dr. Perlmutter isn’t exactly following the Paleo diet, since his own modified version of this is the Bulletproof diet, I decided to use him to be a base for Paleo since he is the most publicized speaker about this diet. Dr. Perlmutter’s diet is filled with controversy; one of his claims is that wheat is an opiate; this has ...

Paleolithic diet: includes gathering and hunting foods, like meat and berries. Cultivated foods are ones that they had to learn to grow.
Our body’s immune system protects us from infections and diseases. When the immune system begin attacking healthy cells and tissues in the body, this can trigger autoimmune diseases. This disorder tend to run in families and women particularly Hispanic-American, Native American, and African-American have the higher risk. Treatment involves attempts in controlling the process of the disease as well as reducing the symptoms. Medications and supplements can be effective, while some chooses to rely in the changes of nutritional intake. Paleo is one of the most controversial nutritional diet today and many have chosen to take on this diet in fighting autoimmune diseases.
As one of the newest, hottest diet trends to circulate around the United States, the Paleo Diet is essentially a high-protein, low-carb diet based on the speculated diets of our caveman ancestors. With its emphasis on poultry, lean meats, whole fruits and vegetables, as well as nuts but not grains, legumes, dairy, or anything refined or processed, the theory behind the diet is simple. As quoted by an online review by U.S. News & World Report: “if the cavemen didn’t eat it, you shouldn’t either.” Since our hunter-gatherer fore-bearers never had to eat the highly-processed, antibiotic-and-hormone-heavy food we eat today, they were much healthier, lived more active lives, and never suffered from the “disease of civilization” so many people in the U.S. and around the world deal with today.
Every person has different needs in their food diet. Finding a diet to fit their needs may be one of the best things they choose to do in their life. Some people may have conflict with choosing a diet to follow because of available resources, finances, and even what’s healthy and in season. The Paleo food diet is among one of the many diets in the world that many choose to follow and for them, it may be the best diet they have chosen to follow. Though this diet may act on limitations of certain foods and impose challenges, the benefits are greatly rewarding.
The question comes up again; “How is your diet?” Jessica revisited her diet analysis from the first week of class. She noticed that some things have changed and some things, unfortunately, have not changed. She knew that some things would not change because of the hectic and busy semester and summer she had ahead of her but the things that did change surprised her. This class did some good for her, but she still needs some work on her diet and nutrition.
Relevance: Weight problems are something a lot of people struggle with in college. I.E.; Freshman 15. And being healthy in college can really help people deal with other stuff better. Because when you don’t have to worry about your health you can focus on exams and homework more.
Nutrition is a very controversial and confusing topic. One day coffee is bad for you, but the next day it is good. Alcohol is detrimental for our health one day, but the next day red wine is the elixir of life. There are dozens of diet plans and they promise a leaner and healthier body. There is the 3-Hour Diet that involves constantly eating small portions of anything we want to eat. The latest diet craze, the Paleo Diet, is based upon eating foods that our “hunter-gatherer ancestors” would have thrived on during the Paleolithic era. And there is the Blood Type Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Macrobiotic Diet, the Mediterranean Diet, and the list goes on. But who and what should we believe? Well, there is an optimal diet for humans and the answer might surprise many.
Drinking a beer a day has been found healthy, but in college that is never the
As compared to all the other fad diets out there, the Paleo Diet is one that is principled and based on ancient history which makes it absolutely unique. Also, this form of diet does not promote starvation or crash dieting; rather you are taught how to basically improve on your food choices to get the best results.
The nutrients that they get from food are what contribute to help all the systems in their body function properly. In their first year, students are in a transition phase between the kind and amount of nutrients they used to get at home and the ones they are getting in college. Instead of helping students make a smooth transition, the food that is offered in the meal plan makes it rough for them. This rough transition occurs mainly occurs because the meal plan 's food does not have high nutritional value. Consequently, the results of the rough transition reflects on the student 's health, academic performance, and athletic performance. For instance, Kelly Harris, a first-year student-athlete, said, "It would be easier to eat healthier without meal plans, that’s for sure.” When you have meal plans and you can eat at the school’s buffet. People do not tend to eat the healthiest of foods prepared when so many delicious, rather than nutritious, options are served. A correlation between fifteen pounds of weight gain and the college freshman year has been made because of meal plans. Many of the meals provided to students with meal plans are not quality meals, just innutritious food. They are prepared ahead of time and have been sitting out. That does not sound healthy or appetizing to me. I think that eating unhealthy food, such as the food provided by the meal plan, is not benefiting my energy level. It could
Through life we have many different stages to where we are either settling down for a nice home cooked meal or we are constantly on the go, running around our hectic lives, eating very unhealthy foods. Especially in our college years, students are always on the go running to and from class grabbing a burger and fries from a campus restaurant or eating the microwaveable foods like ramen. Many people try to eat healthy, but always succumb to the stereotype that eating healthy is expensive and takes too much time. This is a common misconception because there are ways in which anyone can eat healthy and on a budget as long as they eat proper portions, eat the right kind of foods, and excessive.

When I was involved in sports I often ate very nutritious foods because I want to stay as physically fit as possible and eating right helped me do that. However, now that I don’t play sports and am a lot more concerned with school and work, making nutritious choices tends to fall to the back burner. Doing this assignment and taking this class in general have made me want to make more thought through decisions about what foods I chose to put into my body. I know eating a balanced diet makes people feel better mentally and physically, so it’s something I have been working on making a priority in my life once
