Self-Reflection Oral communication in all forms is one of the most important skills anyone can have to succeed in today’s workplace. Good oral communicators are generally more comfortable in difficult situations, which everyone will certainly encounter multiple times during their working and personal lives. For example, giving a speech can be very intimidating to someone without much experience in public speaking, as it is a very learned skill that takes lots of practice. After taking an oral communication course in college I now see why it is a required Liberal Arts Core course at UNI. Going into this class I had no idea of all the different formats there are in public speaking and how much goes into the introduction of a speech. I found it very interesting where you may not think at first you might not think building all the various parts of a speech are very important but once you understand how they are put together every little aspect of the speech matters.
