Every single person has goals in their life. These goals can range from life events like graduating college, buying off a house, paying off a car, or saving enough money to go on a vacation. Many also have vague goals such as loose weight, live a simpler life, and be happier. Be happier, how does one go about doing such a thing? It is a goal and thought many have, but one that most do not know how to act upon and make into reality. Below are ways to improve one’s personal level of happiness.
Happiness has to begin within you, and by having solid beliefs and values that you don’t compromise builds a foundation to have your happiness on. Stick true to yourself and who you are, and if something is against your values don’t do it. You cannot ever be truly happy if you are dragging around compromised values and a compromised you. Making the call to stick to your values no matter what could put one is a tough position—keeping your values could cost you a job or promotion. Success in a job is important, but not if what you’re working for isn’t in line with what you want (Smith 2013).
If someone in your life doesn’t make you happy or contribute to who you are in a positive way, get rid of them. Keeping people around that make you feel cranky, angry, stressed, or any other emotion you don’t want to feel is not going to ever help contribute to your overall happiness. These people are like an ugly painting or piece of furniture laying around your house, useless and unnecessary. There are some instances where you may not be able to completely get rid of said person, and if that is the case work to minimize them in your life, much like you might hide an ugly sofa underneath a cover. Unhappy people spread their unhappiness—don’t let them give...

...e words of female comedian, Amy Pohler:
"Be easy on yourself. Have fun. Only hang around people that are positive and make you feel good. Anybody who doesn 't make you feel good, kick them to the curb. And the earlier you start in your life the better. The minute anybody makes you feel weird and non-included or not supported, you know, either beat it or tell them to beat it”(17 Quotes From Our Favorite Funny Ladies That Will Make Your Day 2014).
Pohler reminds us that it is important to give yourself a break, and to get rid of people that don’t support you. Never let yourself forget who you are in this world of pleasing others. Don’t spend your whole life living in regrets and being exhausted, be generous with yourself, both in personal time and in forgiveness. Happiness won’t ever come from the most perfect of situations, it comes from living your life.

- Happiness Theory Ordinarily, Merriam-Webster characterizes happiness in such a way that lends itself to feeling an unmistakable sense of accomplishment through success; moreover defined as “the state of being happy.” Accordingly, while money helps someone to attain an instant sense of gratification and success, it ultimately loses it’s authority when considering that happiness is often the simple equanimity felt by methods achieved other than through financially based means.
