The definition of leadership is “leadership is the activity of leading a group of people or organization or the ability to do this (What is leadership, 2015).” Leadership is also about helping followers that are gifted in many areas to concentrate on the organization’s true mission. A true leader helps motivate followers into seeing the future of the organization and breaks down the true vision to make it understandable by all. Leadership includes motivating, teaching, coaching, building on the diversity within an organization, helping, directing, and many other aspects. These attributes are general cognitive ability, crystallized cognitive theory, motivation, and personality (Northouse, 2009). General cognitive ability is a person’s intelligence. Crystallized cognitive ability is knowledge acquired over time. Motivation is when a leader encourages employees to better themselves. I do, at this time, consider myself a leader in the area I am in. I hope to be able to advance in my career to be a leader that people are willing to follow. I intend to use the definition of leadership in any aspect of my life. Leadership definitions can apply to different areas in your life. I definitely believe having good ethics, being an authentic and transformational leader, understanding diversity and teams are very important in leadership and in everyday life.
