Introduction: As I raise my Virtual Child I have noticed major changes in her development. Some changes are due to physical developmental others are changes due to environmental changes for her. I am pleased with Joanna’s development as she is developing in the normal range. Developmental Milestones: Joanna of 19 months old was above age-norms for some motor skills such as building a block tower. She performed well in spatial skills tasks such as copying shapes, coloring within the lines and solving picture puzzles. Joanna was average for gross motor development. By age 2½ Joanna varied in her gross motor skills. For example, she was slightly below average for climbing and was slightly above average for throwing and catching a ball. The first stage happens during infancy the development challenge in this stage is whether the child will develop a basic relationship with the caregiver or the child learns to mistrust others. The second stage occurs during toddlerhood. This development challenge is if the child is making their own decisions will it lead to a healthy sense of autonomy or if the child is punished then the child experiences shame and doubt (Arnett, pg 22). Children learn through interactions with others also assistance is needed to learn what they need to learn (Arnett, pg 192). An adult to guide the child is very important to assist the learning process for the child therefore the childcare provider would need to be hands-on with the kids in the daycare. Piaget’ theory of cognitive development is important to incorporate in a childcare setting. The childcare providers will allow the child to explore their surroundings but at the same time provide them with a safe environment. It’s important for children to interact with other to learn social skills. It’s essential to have a role model figure to help guide the child to learn the correct way of things. It’s important to develop cognitive skills to have a normal development so when the child starts school they will be at their age level of cognitive development with the other children and not have to feel different. Conclusion: Joanna is 30 months and has shown major developmental changes I am excited to witness more developmental changes as she grows. Seen she is interacting with more people now, her environment will be a major influence. However seen she is still young I pick her
