In this writing assignment, I will focus on defining the meaning of music. By giving the meaning of music I will also express how the music will and can benefit a young child. I will also give my thoughts about the web site and how music, benefits to our young children. I will also address the different instruments and different sounds these instruments make in many different songs. I will address how creativity comes to play with music in the classroom.
Music is the art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous melody, harmony, rhythm and timbre (American Heritage). Music is important for children due to it helps develop a child’s language skills, self-esteem, listening skills, math skills and brain connections. By using different instruments we as teachers and parents are helping our children to grow and become more active, also helps them with rhythm and develop motor coordination. Early childhood is also the time when children learn about their world, primarily through the magical process of play. We are all familiar with the way children interact and play together. Through these interactions, it is clear to see their curiosity, energetic attitude, and friendliness. However there is one important part of their interactions that is overlooked. We often do not think much of kids humming a tune or combining small syllables into a little song, but if we paid close attention, we could see how music is so thoroughly integrated into a child’s life. After reading “Songs in Their Heads: Music and its Meaning in Children’s Lives” by Patricia Shehan Campbell, it became clear to me how children have a concept of music from such a young age, and in a lot of cases, their knowledge of music is not taught to them through school.
Music is one of the few things that has remained constant through the centuries this world has existed. Not only does music provide entertainment, it also has several effects linked to it. Music allows emotions of happiness and sadness to arise. From those emotions, physical effects, negative or positive, can occur. Music has a profound effect on the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical aspects of a person.
Music is the third most important thing to me in life outside of god and my mom. Music keeps me balanced. Every since I was a baby music was played around me. Jazz was always played around me to soothe me. There would be times when I would be really hyper acting like I couldn't sleep, my mom would put on some jazz and I would be fine. A lot of times I can have a long chore and I say to my self how can I accomplish this, Knowing it will take me forever. So I'll put on some jazz music and in twenty-five minutes I'm finished.

Because both sides of the brain are being affected, there are both creative and analytical benefits to making music part of daily routines. It’s no secret that listening to or playing music is enjoyable, but studies have proven that music can boost more than just your mood.

In kindergarten through fifth grade, music can be used in the classroom to teach students the daily classroom curriculum. Learning to play any musical instrument, benefits an individual in all aspects of life, whether it 's academically, socially, physically, or emotionally. Instruments that were created to make musical sounds are categorized into five main groups; strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and keyboards. And all it takes is dedication and admiration in order to successfully learn how to play an instrument. I believe that musicians, those who have musical ability, have an advantage over other individuals who don 't have the knowledge to play an instrument. Becoming a musician will also open up so many opportunities that are undeniably gratifying.
