Gender Inequality is the disparity in opportunities and rights between men and women across all sectors in one society, including the lack of involvement in economic and decision making. Women and girls are discriminated against in health, education, political representation, labour market, etc — with negative repercussions for development of their capabilities and their freedom of choice (Human Developments report, 2014).The Persisting gender stereotypes and perceptions continued to obstruct the women’s efforts in reaching the highest roles of decision-making, while the cultural roots and beliefs traditionally categorized the roles held by men and women, and particularly in relation to childcare and care of other dependents; which had a harmful …show more content…

On average in 2010, women only made 77 cents to every dollar a man earned (Brinton, M .2010) There’s still a gender gap that needs to be rectified. Unfortunately, when it comes to the discriminations in pay the figure is worse. No woman ever was reckoned in a recent Fortune magazine survey of the 25 highest-paying CEO’s in Europe, and in some countries, no woman has ever headed a large global corporation (The Conundrum of the Glass Ceiling, 63). Some of the main obstacles that women faces in the workplace today; when in any prestigious jobs it is expected to work long hours which can be at the cost of other aspect of life – like picking up the kids, cooking and grocery shopping. In Lean in book conversation about gender commented that Rather than telling women to be more confident and ambitious, I think that it is more important to talk about how workplaces need to adapt to the “whole person,” both women and men. This way everyone can strike a better balance between working and spending time with family, friends, and their community (Gender Inequality and Woman in the Workplace). This lead to a conclusion that women put more much more hours than men in household tasks that is great disadvantages women in the workplace.
