The discipline of public relations is a modern profession which has been in existence for only close to a century; however, it has already taken an important role in the fields of business, government, entertainment and non-profit organizations including educational institutions and healthcare organizations. Public relations professionals are required to have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to persuade the public. It is imperative for PR professionals to effectively communicate with its public in order to establish and maintain a positive relationship. Furthermore, public relations professionals must have the ability to work under pressure and effectively manage crisis which may have detrimental effect on the company and the public it serves. Successful communication is critical for effective exchanges of information between individuals in every aspect of life, especially business. In the realm of business, be it planning, organizing, controlling, leading, or evaluating, accurate communication empowers satisfaction, trust and progress. Chuck Williams describes communication when he wrote "…consider that effective oral communication—achieved by listening, following instructions, conversing, and giving feedback—is the most important skill for college graduates who are entering the workforce. Communication is the process of transmitting information from one person or place to another" (Williams, 2015).
Messaging The messaging is the personality of the brand (Fennell, 2015), this is mainly important to companies starting up their marketing section as it creates the voice of the brand in all public communications. Creativity Being creative is important to stand out from other marketing elements from other brands. Coca Cola has always been able to do this through their theatrical commercials and brightly coloured online ad frames Channel selection This is the selection of the medium where the communications will be placed, often one is not enough, so it’s important to maximize communications through as many mediums possible (Fennell, 2015). Coca Cola has achieved this by essentially using all possible channels in order to communicate the brand i.e. YouTube, TV, Facebook etc. Measurement Selecting the means at which the project success is measured. Effective business communication is central to the success of an individual’s career and consequently to that of the overall business entity. It would be imaginable therefore that there is some form of correlation between effective communication skills and such success. To put this into context, University of Kent (2011) has placed Verbal Communication at the top of the ten skills that employers most commonly look for. On the same note, anything that hinders effective communication is bound to have a negative effect not only on the specific message delivery, but also on the overall success of a career. In this paper, some of the barriers to effective business communication are discussed, with a few examples of how they affect the process.

Dwyer outlines various aspects that attributes to communication that help to aid in becoming a successful person in life professionally and privately and the changes in communication channels used in today’s workplace such as face to face, meetings, telephones, email and social media. Aspects such as listening, awareness, empathy, approachable, supportive and being open to others. Communication has seven major components within it; Sender, Message, Channel, Receiver, Feedback, Setting and Interference. With anyone of these being misrepresented can change the complete meaning of the original message. Things such as globalisation, intercultural differences and diversity are one of the crucial issues to be aware of within communication to insure that the correct meaning is delivered. The connection made via effective communication is essential within today’s workplace.
A company’s brand is one of its most valuable assets (Green and Smith 2002). Brands owners invest millions of dollars every year in advertising and promotion to raise awareness and create demand for their brands.
It is not easy to understand significance of some things and their impact until you actually undergo them. Ability to effectively communicate and work is one such thing. Before I started business communication class, I was very pessimistic about my communication abilities and my competence in rapidly evolving field of business communication. I was unconfident and nervous on my first day of class. I quickly realized that business communication is course that you will never learn until you energetically engage in various situations of listening and speaking. However, with all wonderful experiences of participation in the class, I personally felt that I gained a real experience without even working in an organization. Interactive nature of the class combined with wonderful teaching of Diana has really helped me to gain immortal knowledge. Through this course, I have refined my communication skills and strengthened my confidence to deliver professional standards and competencies emphasized by potential employers. I would like to share how each module of the course helped me to hone my interpersonal skills:
