The purpose of English 102 is to teach students to compose multiple genres of writing and to consider how diverse electronic environments and digital tools facilitate the countless rhetorical situations of personal, social, civic, academic, and professional discourses. Throughout this course I was able to become more knowledgeable of rhetoric and how it affects our lives every day. Before taking this course, I was not aware of how rhetoric constantly shapes who I am as a reader, writer, and critical thinker. Throughout this course I have developed better reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. To prove how I have improved in these three areas, I will provide information about my development of new habits/practices, writing process strategies,
My progression as a writer has steadily improved over the past semester. Expanding sentence variety and experiencing in-class discussion has elevated my writing style to another level. I have learned how to successfully attack time management issues head on and how to research effectively. My ability to present information in a logical and organized fashion has reached new heights and my punctuation has become much better. I have improved upon areas that I was already competent in while addressing the weaker aspects of my writing.
Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience. Other aspects of the writing process over the semester such as the revision stages were also something that I continued to progress in. I’ve come to realization that writing is no longer a just another assignment that I can just through just before it’s due. This class is the first writing course in which I’ve actually had to push myself. I firmly believe that I have that brought my writing to another level. My paragraphs feel sharper, my ability to reference pop text has gotten significantly better, and, most importantly, I am able to more personal with my writing.
This class has helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses in literature. This has allowed me to grow and realize that I am a work in progress. I am confident that by the end of this class my big issues in writing will be improved. Each assignment in this class is helping grow and is making me into the writer I know I can be. I seem to learn better when I constantly read over the material I am studying.
Over four years of university, I’ve had plenty of practice in refining these skills and E... ... middle of paper ... ...ork. I learned to reflect and look for anything that could be improved and work on improving it. Despite my initial misgivings regarding this course, it helped me to improve my skills in writing, researching and reflecting. The skills I learned led to me increasing my grades significantly and learn new things that would benefit me in other courses in the future. I would not say I’m glad I was obligated to take this course, but I am grateful for the things it taught me and the ways it helped me improve my writing and my mindset.
English 1010 was exactly the class I needed to improve myself as an assertive reader and writer. This semester, I have learnt not only about genre and genre selection, but also using concise language, sources, improving drafting skills and overcoming writers block. In How to Write Anything, the various genres and sub genres were displayed. This has helped to me to identify the genre of any paper based on the type paper I’m completing. For Example, I know that if I’m completing a product review, the genre of that paper is Evaluation.
All of these things can be used in my future classes throughout my college career. This essay reflects on how my writing of English Composition essays has grown, or benefited from continuous revising, visiting the Writing Center, and implementing the feedback I have received from my instructor. The process of writing and revising of my first paper for English Composition 1 benefited from the various resources offered at the University of Oklahoma. Although I have learned a lot and have improved my writing skills tremendously I still feel that I have more to work on.
I think that my extended vocabulary has made a huge impact on the way I write. These three skills stood out to me most and will be most beneficial to me in essays to come and life events that occur. I am very confident that taking this course in general will assist me in succeeding in future schooling. I have acquired some communication skills and know how to use those for projects later on. My essays of all kinds whether it be narrative or a research paper will be more substantial due to my improved organization and choice of words.
I wrote rhetorically for the first time, put my writing online, and gain a new understanding of writing. Of course, I learned about MLA format and citing, which is more important than it seems to be. Also, realized that my writing performance can be improved immensely based on spending more time on my assignments. As well as my grammar, general flow, and the maturity of my writing enhanced thanks to this class. The main reason I became a better writer was because my teacher.
