Imagine waking up as a mother and the little boy who called you mommy yesterday, now does not respond to his name. Many parents find themselves wondering why their children are not learning to talk around the right age and why their child does not want to be social with other children. This is occurring more frequently across America where autism is becoming more common in children. Autism, a complex problem that is difficult to diagnosis, has no cure, but it can be treated to help those with autism live a fuller life.
Autism can be a devastating disease. Autism is a serious medical disorder that appears in young children and persists throughout life (Rodier 941). This medical disorder is difficult to diagnosis and can be anywhere from mild to very severe. From birth to at least thirty-six months of age each child should be screened for developing milestones (Autism-Society). If certain milestones are not reached a child may be suspected of having autism. A child suspected of having autism will be evaluated in structured play date.
