Recommended: Women salary inequality essay

The U.S. equal employment commission notes the equal pay act of 1963 which enacts the prohibition of sex discrimination in the workplace. However, nearly more than 50 years, this law has not yet fully implemented. Women earn 77 cents per dollar men earn (cite). Majority of people working in careers in legislature, management and combat are men. This is unacceptable for many women are now able to do what men can be able to do. There is certain male entitlement that is happening in our work place that cannot be ignored. Men and women should be able to choose any career they prefer and be confident they will be able to get equal pay. There should be equal pay for men and women for their equal strengths and skills. In contradiction, the vast majority of women with young children are employed. In 1996, 60 percent of women with children under the age of 5 were employed. And the average work life of women today is 30 years (cite). The idea of commitment should not be based on being gender-specific. Women can be committed, the same way men can neglect their jobs and vice versa. There should be equal pay for the benefit of the economy. Imagine a country with equal pay. Women represent the largest market opportunity in the world, according to Forbes magazine. Globally, they control $20 trillion in annual consumer spending (Barman). In addition, 50% of products marketed to men are actually purchased by women (Barman).This means, women have great purchasing power. With equal pay, there would be enough money circulating which in result would boost economic growth. The workforce should be paid according to their level of ability and not on the basis of gender. A more righteous way in determining wage pay is through education, experience, and ability. The society needs to end male entitlement for this generation is now living in equal opportunity and civil rights. In this way, employers may be able to motivate the best qualified workers to work in their appropriate
