Animals should not be kept in captivity
These poor defenceless creatures are being held hostage in cages and every time you go to the zoo and pay them, to get in, to get food, to ride the train, you are helping them earn profit for taking these animals away from their family and the only home they've ever known. Imagine how scared they must be. I know I would be terrified. Zoos have been around for centuries, in the early days of zoos, animals were often diseased and treated poorly. Nowadays things are much better but it still isn't right to have animals locked up in cages. While some may argue is in the best interest of the animal, it really isnt animals should never be held in captivity. First, almost all zoos are created to entertain people and to make profit not to help animals. Second, when,if, an animal is released into the wild they are not the same from before captivity because if the way they are cared for. Lastly, animals do not come out with the same instinct, it is dull in the back of their minds now, and they have not got the opportunity to work on and develop social skills, especially with other animals.

Would they really have people glaring at them through glass? Would they really be allowing people to tap on the glass and scare the animals? Would there really be attractions based on them? Think about that next time you go to the zoo. While some may argue that they treat the animals and release them, how fair is that to the animal? Is it fair that animals are getting experimented on while you are funding the people that are doing that to them? How is any of this fair to the animals? Who don't have a
Keeping animals locked in cages, bored and cramped up in such a small space is an awful sight to show the children. It creates an image in the little minds of children that animals are to be treated like they don’t matter. They say Zoos are a place where children can learn about the wild, exotic animals, but in reality it doesn't teach them anything only that they are meant to be caged up, which is wrong. Also, it is really painful to see the animals bored and lonely, so why should people keep letting them do this to these beautiful creatures. Animal captivity for entertainment should end to let them go to their rightful home.
It’s always fun to go with your friends and family to see cute and exotic animals when you go to the zoo, right? You may think that they have the best life having people to give them things that want and to protect them, but some of them are actually suffering just for our amusement from being in that small enclosure all day and all night. Animals should not be put in zoos because they can develop many mental and physical health problems due to the absence of some natural necessities and they are not always treated as nice as you think.
In conclusion, I hope one day all the zoos will be shut down, so that the animals can live their life in their natural habitat so suffering will go away and they will not be put into misery. So I think animals should not be put in
Some also think that the places are rescuing animals from the wild to save their lives. As much as all those people want to look past those bars and see an animal happy that’s not always the case. In a year more than 100 million Americans visit zoos daily and even though more than half of them are against animal captivity, it doesn’t stop them. “I think that animal captivity is okay because they could save some lives of animals but I still think for the most part it is a horrible thing.” (Chelsey Pinegar) I feel as though many people with agree with this statement because we want what’s best for the animal but also for them not to be tortured in any way.
It’s hard to imagine that the animals we get joy from seeing at the zoo, has a negative affect on the animals.
The first reason why animals should not be kept in captivity is animals need room to roam. In zoos they don’t have a big enough area for the animals to roam in their enclosed habitats. Animals need room to climb, fly, swim, roam or run in zoos. If animals are out of captivity they have room to do all of these things unlike in zoos they don’t. According to the article Do Animals Lose in Zoos even with man made-made areas to fly, swim, climb, and explore, animals are still restricted to their behavior.
This is just one of many examples of zoos going under fire for choices they have made. Some people like zoos because it gives them a chance to see animals that they might not be able to see on a normal day. However, zoos should be discontinued because they are cruel, ill-equipped,
Animals should not be held captive in zoos because it is inhumane and unfair to the animals. There are so many records of terrible things that have happened to animals in zoos over the past few centuries, the go under the radar too often. Too few people even know about these animal care atrocities, and therefore the New York Times decided to bring light upon this situation. The Times did a first-of-its-kind analysis of 390 elephant fatalities at accredited U.S. zoos over the past 50 years (Berens 3). It found that most of the elephants died from injury or disease linked to conditions of their captivity, from chronic foot problems caused by standing on hard surfaces to musculoskeletal disorders from inactivity caused by being penned or chained for days and weeks at a time.
middle of paper ... ... Freedom is precious and animals are constantly suffering mentally and physically from the lack of freedom that captivity brings to them. Although many zoos are visited by millions of people annually, they still operate at a loss and have to make budget cuts. Funds that should be used to provide humane conditions for animals are often wasted on cosmetic improvements such as landscaping, refreshment stands, and gift shops in order to draw visitors, leaving the animals behind steel bars and glass trapped in a concrete jungle for no reason without hope of ever being free.
Zoos allow people to learn information on different types of animals, yet the animals are placed in a negative environment for the purpose of entertainment. There are clear dismal differences in an animal living in their natural habitat versus an animal kept in an enclosure. Putting animals in these uncomfortable environments takes away the meaning of what a wild animal truly is. These issues will proceed to effect the animals as long as they're used for entertainment
Even though some zoos have an endangered species exhibit with the intention of protecting and rehabilitating animals, many do not do an adequate job of protecting the animals. Zoos have been harmful to the very animals they have sworn to protect. Animals in captivity often suffer from anxiety, boredom and other severe issue related to prolonged confinement. Most animals are unable to thrive in small enclosure with unnatural weather and climates. For example elephants are known to walk as far as 30 miles per day, but the association of Zoos and aquariums only require a space the measures $0 feet by 45 feet, which is about the size of a three car garage, to house these large animals. (peta.org) the drastic difference in the amount of space their allowed ...
In these inhumane zoos, the first reason why zoos should be illegalized is that they are given an astonishingly little amount of privacy. The majority of these animals are huddled in the far corners of their cage, or where ever is the farthest from the prying eyes of their audience, as they are being gaped at and taken pictures of for the majority of their days, and when they escape the eyes of humans directly,
According to the Captive Animals’ Protection Society, “Wild animals in zoos suffer physically and mentally as their complex social, behavioral and physical needs cannot be met in an unnatural, man-made environment.” No matter if the cage looks like the animals’ natural habitat, the inhabitant won’t interact with the false environment the same way it would as if it were in the wild. In order for zoos to have healthy animals, they should change the sizes and real props that would be found in the wild. However, Zoos give a lot of resources to educational programs.
... danger too. A good reason for captivity is rehabilitation for an animal that is hurt or wounded and could be treated. Then having a second chance back out into the wild. Also by keeping endangered species from going completely instinct by figuring out genetics of an animal. So having zoos and farms do help animals but does put them at risk.
Tigers, lions, giraffes, and other exotic animals are rarely seen in the wild. However the public, without humans and/or animals being harmed at the same time, can see exotic animals when a zoo opens. Zoos for many are a wonderful experience, but to others they see the animals as being treated poorly and not able to roam free. These people do not consider the beneficial sides of zoos. Zoos around the world help species that have been endangered by protecting and caring for them. Otherwise they would have became extinct and killed for their valuable fur or feathers. Zoos were created for a purpose that needed to be filled. If there were no purpose for them they would have not been created. Zoos are needed and if there is a need in this world, the spot will most likely be filled without hesitation. Some zoos were not trained properly and do not treat their animals very well. Some bad zoos do not feed their animals enough and keep them in a confined cage. Although some zoos are harmful for both animals and people, many of them are good zoos and take care of their animals better than most people take care of them selves. It is amazing to be able to see such care and love are associated with zoos. Not only do zoos help the endangered animals they also help people learn to respect such amazing creatures. Zoos are a good attribute to society because they promote education, research, protect, conserve, and outlook.
