Persuasive Essay On Zoos

Everyone loves the zoo-except the animals. At the expense of the animals, people laugh at them, take pictures, and essentially torture them. The zoos are the equivalent to a prison for the animals-guilty of not being able to escape fast enough. Zoos should be banned because the animals are given no privacy, in captivity and isolated.

In these inhumane zoos, the first reason why zoos should be illegalized is that they are given an astonishingly little amount of privacy. The majority of these animals are huddled in the far corners of their cage, or where ever is the farthest from the prying eyes of their audience, as they are being gaped at and taken pictures of for the majority of their days, and when they escape the eyes of humans directly,

To many, the bars that compose the structure of the cage are positioned there to stop people from going too close to a dangerous animal. However the bars serve another more sinister purpose. Much like prison cell bars, they both are designed to keep visitors out and the convict from escaping. They are just high enough to prevent the caged animals from passing through, or going over. With real prisoners, there is the same situation, but even the prisoners are allowed out of their cell once in a while to see visitors. Also, the bars not only restrict the animals, they also confine them. They are captured and transported to an area only a fraction of their natural habitat. They are used to hunting for their food and running free, but instead they are surrounded and fed artificial food already injected with different nutrients to keep them what is the standard for “healthy”. However, all the animals in the zoo look miserable, because there is no substitute for exercise in the wild. If they, for some reason, do not serve the purposes of the zoo any longer and are released back into the wild, their muscles are wasted, which makes them easy prey for animals with a physique far more superior.
