Zoos have been around for a long time. They educate people of all ages of different types of ecosystems and the organisms that inhabit them. Zoos are great places to see animals you wouldn’t see in your backyard or at a park. Zoos should continue to be but should change some things about them. Many people can argue that zoo animals suffer regardless of how nicely decorated the animals’ cages are. According to the Captive Animals’ Protection Society, “Wild animals in zoos suffer physically and mentally as their complex social, behavioral and physical needs cannot be met in an unnatural, man-made environment.” No matter if the cage looks like the animals’ natural habitat, the inhabitant won’t interact with the false environment the same way it would as if it were in the wild. In order for zoos to have healthy animals, they should change the sizes and real props that would be found in the wild. However, Zoos give a lot of resources to educational programs. The people who participate in these programs learn more about the importance of biodiversity and conservation. With endangered or threatened species, the AZA has special survival plans to maintain genetic diversity and demographically varied populations. They take in animals from abusive situations and even help save species from complete extinction. They look for ways to reintroduce the species when conditions are in favor for them to survive. With all the genetic diversity, biodiversity, and the animals zoos save and help recover, zoos should return them to nature. While at the zoos teach the public and release them when it’s safe for them and keep those individuals who won’t survive in the wild. We can learn much from those visitors and they’d still be fully
