Many schools have started using uniforms as a way to keep their students in line but are these uniforms necessary and helpful? Students should not have to wear uniforms. Because of how much they limit self-expression and can be very expensive, uniforms also separate schools based on income. Uniforms are also unfair to our nation because school should be free. For these reasons, students should not have to wear uniforms. School uniforms limit the students creativity and self expression. Making students in schools around the country wear uniforms is limiting students creativity and self expression by not letting these kids make their own decisions on what to wear. Also denying students in schools decision making practice for what to wear every day will make these students not prepared for making decisions in the adult world. School uniforms are very expensive for all students especially those of low income families. In the years that a student goes to school multiple versions of the uniform have to be purchased, this makes school financially difficult for families with more than one child. These schools that transition into uniform schools are usually failing in one way or another and need something to change. These schools also are schools that do not have very much funding. On the contrary, the schools that do not have uniforms are suburban public schools that are well funded and do not have many obvious problems. Kids wearing uniforms are then categorized into going to not as well funded public problem schools and these kids could get teased or bullied.
