Do you have the daily fight about doing homework? Well I think we should not have homework. Even though some may disagree that it is good. I know homework is bad because, homework has no academic benefit, has bad medical effects ,and parents feel that can’t help. One reason why we should not have homework is homework has no academic benefit. One example is that according to Robert Marzano a well known educational researcher “homework and test scores do not correlate.” Robert Marzona even stated that homework can have a negative effect on test scores. So your child could be staying up all night to finish their homework and end up with a worse grade than they would have gotten with no homework. Also according to Too Much Homework=Lower Test Scores countries like Japan students are assigned little homework, yet out score countries like U.S Thailand Greece and Iran that assign their students lots of homework. This shows that homework is not effective because the countries with more homework have worse test scores. Finally according to Robert Marzona “teachers are not well trained to assign homework.” This is important because if teachers don’t …show more content…
One example is stress. According to NEA scientist have linked homework with stress. This is a big deal because when you're stressed you tend to be in a mode and take it out on someone else. Also in the article Should Schools Ban Homework the article states how studies have linked homework with lack of sleep. So like staying up all night hoping you did your homework right, or staying up all night to do it. Lastly according to Robert Marzano homework is interfering with the U.S culture. How? U.S culture values family time that homework takes away. By doing this family's can get into fight on whether to go to your brothers soccer game or do homework. Homework being bad for you is another reason schools should not have
Many people often say that students, teachers, and parents, think homework should be banned, but multiple people disagree. This heated topic has been debated for many years. Some parents and teachers think students have too much. However, some believe their students receive too little. Few schools already have banned homework, but the majority of schools don’t. Some people agree with having ten minutes multiplied by the grade level of the student. As experts continue adding additional facts about homework, it is clear that homework can help students in different ways.
Everytime a kid does his homework, correctly, they are possibly advancing their knowledge and understanding of the subject at hand. Although, Alfie Kohn, author of the book “The Homework Myth” states, “Such policies sacrifice thoughtful instruction in order to achieve predictability, and they manage to do a disservice not only to students but, when imposed from above, to teachers as well” (Suhay). Not all homework will be beneficial. It can harm
There should not be homework for students. For starters, homework pushes families further apart from each other. Secondly, homework causes kids to actually do worse on schoolwork and tests. Lastly, homework causes kids to get stressed out and depressed because they have to go home and do homework instead of have there own free time. Those are a few reasons why students should not have homework.
“So, is homework related to high academic success?” “At a national level, the answer is clearly no. Worldwide, homework is not associated with high national levels of academic achievement” (Homework 2). Kids do not get enough sleep because school starts too early and schools should start later for health benefits. Additionally, Teachers give too much homework which might cause kids to stay up late and not get enough sleep and cause health issues. If schools start late there’s less time for after school activities. Even though homework is to help learn and schools start early and end at a good time, schools should start later because kids do not get enough sleep and teachers give too much homework.
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
We all know that kids do not like homework, and we all know that kids just want to get rid of it. I know, I want it gone too. But what if there is a good enough debate that we can maybe, just maybe, end the suffering of children having homework. I’m going to be talking about why schools should not have homework. Some reasons are depression, stress, and exercise.
If kids have too much homework they wouldn’t get free time to play outside until they finish their homework. Students who care about school wouldn’t do anything fun until they finish their homework which means less physical exercise. Too much homework and no time to play outside is very bad for your health. If you are not getting exercise which means your body will be out of shape. Without playing outside your body can get out of shape and obese because you are not exercising every day. When you have too much homework you would be cramped up in your room studying all day and having no exercise. Students shouldn’t be getting to much homework so they could play outside and be healthy and
Homework is one of the struggle that students have. In now days, students are having very hard time at doing homework. They use a lots of time to finish it. Students don’t have relaxing time because of homework time. Many teachers are giving home works to students, so they usually spend time to finish homework, essay, and projects.
Homework should be banned from schools because Homework can negatively affect kids health. One piece of evidence is eductionalreaserchers Robert Marzano and Debra Pickering state that homework can be very bad for students mentally and physically. It is bad because kids get too much of it and kids start to worry and get scared that there teacher will be disappointed in them. Another reason why homework can negatively affect students health is homework can give kids sleep deprivation. My evidence to support this is research proves that kids can get sleep deprivation by staying up to late doing homework. My last reason is homework can cause suicidal thoughts. One piece of evidence is a lot of kids are having suicidal thoughts because of way too much homework, according to Teens, stress, and suicide, homework can also cause kids to have suicidal thoughts by stress and they think that homework is way to hard. Therefor homework should be banned from schools all around.
My second reason why homework is not beneficial to students is that it takes away from family time and extracurricular activities. An article by NBC News states that ¨Homework takes away from family time and does not improve academic performance. ¨ Also Robert Marzano stated that ¨too much homework harms student´s health and family time
Should or should not have homework There are many pros and cons to a lot of things and places. One very particular place that has a lot pros and cons is schools. My argument is schools should/should not have homework. The side I am going for is the con side.
This will help promote my side of the argument so that my side will be the superior argument and will attract more readers. I think kids should have less homework.Three reasons are, that homework is stressful, kids are given more homework than required, and it puts pressure on students causing them to work to hard and and have anxiety and health issues.
Homework is for suckers. Homework causes stress for students as well as for parents. Homework is extremely demanding and many students are spending far too many hours after school to complete their homework assignments. Although, some students may be able to whiz right through their homework, other students crawl along struggling at a snail’s pace. Consequently, family time is put on the back burner due to the time constraints of homework. Additionally, any extracurricular activities are also put on hold. Homework is nothing more than a scapegoat for teachers so that they can pawn off their due responsibilities on parents and students. Homework should be banned for students Kindergarten through 8th grade because the negative effects do not out weight the benefits that come from homework.
Time is a big issue when it comes to homework. “Both books cite studies, surveys, statistics, along with some hair rising anecdotes, on how rising tide of dull, useless assignments is oppressing families and making kids hate learning.” (Wallis, Claudia 1). This statement simply says that teachers who pile on the homework, have students who push away the idea of school. Seven hours’ worth of homework isn’t always something students look forward to after a long day of learning. Kids who are participating in extra- curricular activities don’t have the time for an extra 45 minutes to waste. When assignments take away from family time, children of all ages begin to dislike school.
Although homework may seem like drudgery, the hard work that is put into homework may pay off in the long run. In the article, “Does homework really work for students?” Jacqueline Carey, the mother of seventh grade student Micah Carey, stated that “homework gives [students] a good foundation for when they move on further in school” (Johnson). Not only that, but according to Donyall Dickey, principal at Murray Hill Middle School, “if students do not acquire things in class, they will acquire them through homework” (Johnson). As we can see, homework helps and prepares us for higher grade levels while in primary school that can possibly prepare us for college.
