Why is it that online classes have become more popular over the years than traditional courses? At first, I asked myself this same question, then with a little research I found out there were more positives than negatives to achieving an online education. I personally became intrigued by the idea of convenience, self scheduling, and self discipline; but this is not for everyone. Online school has become a great alternative for people who cannot attend a brick and mortar school. Getting an online education is very valuable; nonetheless, it comes with advantages and disadvantages.
People with busy schedules find it difficult to attend college. Many look for a way to finish a degree that works with their busy lives and online school is the perfect solution. What most students appreciate about online classes is the ability to juggle work, family, and any other responsibilities efficiently. The convenience of being able to log on to a computer anywhere and at any time has increased the value, as well as the attendance of online classes exponentially.
The advantage of taking online classes is that it prepares you for the global online economy. More jobs are becoming dependent through online networking and discussion; taking online courses helps you prepare for this technology-based era. One of them is that some individuals need that face-to-face interaction with the professor and students to be able to learn effectively. Another drawback is that not every student is computer savvy; I know that when I first took an online course it took me some time to get in the flow and understand how it works. Taking online classes require a lot of self-discipline; some people lose the drive and dedication through the term and may procrastinate since there are no set schedules of attendance.
