Nearly 167,000 students received corporal punishment in school during the 2011 - 2012 school year in the United States. Corporal punishment in school is always wrong. For example, it teaches unethical ideas, it is not effective, and leaves long term negative effects on kids. Corporal punishment is always wrong because it teaches immoral ideas. For example, racism. Corporal punishment most of the time points out race and shows racism “ Black children are twice as likely to be corporally punished than white children.” ( Thompson 1 ) Racism is terrible to teach, especially to children. Racism also leads to violence, which is also a bad thing to teach to children. People may argue that corporal punishment is good because it teaches kids what is wrong. While this may be true in some cases, corporal punishment teaches kids to have the wrong ideas and beliefs like racism and violence. Little kids are being beaten and pushed around in school for no reason because he is not improving his behavior or academic performance. Even though some people say that corporal punishment really works to help kids with their behavior and school grades, most cases are that corporal punishment has only made it worse.
