If a student is being picked on or bullied, that causes them to feel socially withdrawn. In turn, this leads to the student not wanting to be in school or not being able to concentrate on what matters the most, their future. Being picked on is a huge part of how school violence starts. But in reality, those are the things we should pay most attention to. For instance, many people take name-calling for granted because they don?t see the possible consequences that go along with it.
School shootings are a very serious matter, and for years following shootings like Columbine, the atmosphere of the school, as well as the community, is damaged. The Columbine High School shooting is labeled the worst shooting in United States History (“Columbine”). Schools never fully mend from tragic events like school shootings; however, there is more prevention that can be done to reduce the chances of school shootings happening. In the town of Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012, another very tragic school shooting occurred. Adam Lanza first began his shooting rampage by killing his moth... ... middle of paper ... ...d to states to make sure they will share the background check information with the nation-wide background check system (“Now”).
Prevention is the number one way to lower bullying and school violence. In conclusion, School Violence is a widespread issue that must be addressed. School shootings and bullying are some of the biggest issues in today’s school system. Many times the seed of the issue begins with bullying and ends with consequences like suicide and school shootings. They affect people as early as elementary school all the way to the college level, some even ending with death.
The FBI National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime observed that the victimization of students occurs more often in public schools (Will 2). The victims of bullying suffer from emotional distress, and they often have difficulties making friends (J Love 346). The distressed victims will have problems in the workforce and their future family if bullying stays strong in schools. School bullies may demonstrate their ‘power’ in several ways. School bullies may mock peers, spread vicious rumors, play cruel pranks, or use physical force to ensure to their target that they are in charge (J Love 346).
Moreover, schools need involvement from all stakeholders in the school district to ensure proper plans are put in place to deal with violence appropriately when situations arise. Physical violence is defined as an “aggressive behavior where the actor or perpetrator uses his or her own bo... ... middle of paper ... ... in grade school. We are concerned about bullying and teasing, and taunting. We can spend all the money in the world on security around the school, but it won’t do much good if students don’t feel safe inside the school” (Coloroso p. 27). When students come to school they should not do so in fear.
This creates a situation where teachers do not feel supported when they impose discipline, students do not feel protected, and the violence- prone think they will not be punished. Conversely, administrators express dismay that teachers do not enforce policies in their classrooms. Despite these inconsistencies, many promising types of anti-violence strategies have been devised by government, communities, and schools. Most have originated in urban areas, where youth violence was first identified. Elementary education training in anger management, impulse control, appreciation of diversity, and mediation and conflict resolution skills can help prevent youth from engaging in violence as they mature.
Those who attended the Parent Teacher Organization both promoted two contrasting plans for intervening in the very negative and harmful behavior that is occurring within the school. The behaviors being focused on are stealing, bullying and theft. One group of parents suggested to use consequences that are intended to be punishments on the negative, while the other group hopes to focus solely on reinforcing the student’s positive behaviors. Both groups of parents seem to have forgotten everything that they have learned in their Learning and Conditioning course, or they were simply passively listening to their professor because both of their proposals have numerous faults that deem their plans inadequate. Each plan could be detrimental, in differing ways, to the student population that they are attempting to improve.
Schools are not doing all they can to have a true “Bully Free Zone”; moreover, they are going about it in the wrong way. Let us look at some of the ways schools are responding to the bullying issue. Zero Tolerance began as law calling for expulsion fo... ... middle of paper ... ...t more than physical traits. Typical victims tend to be timid, bashful, and lacking confidence in themselves. If an adult knows their child is being abused at school, they should contact the principal or person in charge immediately.
What measures should communities take in order to prevent a shooting from happening in the future? In the wake of an increased awareness in school violence, it is essential to determine some factors that can contribute to violent behavior, why school violence occurs, and also violence prevention tactics in order to prevent future occurrences of violence from happening in school. There has been a lot of discussion on what the typical "child murderer" is like. Many people think that there is a stereotype of a kid that would have violent tendencies. In the most recent school shootings, the killers weren't all drug addicts or loners.
It will be bad things for children life. Bullying can be occured because of many thing such as children do not get enough attention, it also can be because of bad suggestions from the other. Parents have the biggest part of creating their children’s personality, they have to know what happened to their children. Parents also have to keep their communication and do not let their children just silent if there is something happens to them. If bullying happens at school, parents should tell their children to be brave to report it to teachers or parents should consult with the teacher directly.
