My Career Choice. Nurse Practitioner, an advanced Registered Nurse that is trained to provide health services and the diagnosis and treatment of acute illness or chronic conditions, is a career I wish to pursue for the financial benefits, the personal rewards, and the knowledge growth. I have been interested in this job for almost a year now, since about 7th grade I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. This occupation caught my eye mainly because of the personal rewards and the growth of knowledge. The only challenges will be the hours I will have to work. This means that they can diagnose the patient and also treat. A Nurse Practitioner helps when people are in chronic conditions or are severely ill. When going to Missouri Connections and looking at the article “Overview,” I learned that in order to help correctly I will have to get the medical history of the patients (1). They work in the Hospital, the Doctors Offices, or the Emergency Room. This occupation has them working long hours. With this job I will need patience with people because I will deal with many people. Some attractive features for a Nurse Practitioner would have to be the financial benefits and the Personal rewards. For when I help someone, personally to me it makes me feel remarkable, not only about myself but just in general that I may have just saved someone's life. These features are so satisfying because I can not just get it anywhere from anyone. According to “Interests and Values,” Nurse Practitioners have to “consider achievement important” (1). The median salary in St. Louis, Missouri is $89,770 (“Wages” 1). This expense can cover my living cost, gas charges, clothes, and any other necessary needs. These charges would be covered with the amount of pay I would be making. When having this job, I would have to think of where I would have to stay and where I would be driving to everyday. I would be driving at least an hour to my work, to get the best pay; well in my eyes. Being a Nurse Practitioner has many benefits to the job. With this job I can get insurance through it. So this would be a bundle and also better than getting it on my own. With the amount of money I would be making I can put some away each month or even pay check, I can start the retirement plan or maybe they have one started for me. This job can offer me so much knowledge everyday and I will know more than I began with. This job allows “work in a friendly, non-competitive environment” (“Interests and Values” 1).
