Women’s rights has been a social issue that continues to spark the frustration of women today. During the 1920s, there were significant changes for women in politics, the workplace, and education. Well, the same changes in the 1920s is still a problem in 2017. Women live in a country ran by men who have the mindset that it goes “their way or hit the highway”. Underpayment and covering up sexual harassment in the workplace is the current issue for women. Low paying salaries has been the way of life for women for decades. Women have to work longer hours and extra hard to attempt to make the same money that men make. Women work in “Corporate America” and have to fight every day to be equivalent to men but the monetary value remains the same. Women have more college degrees than men have but still are not paid their worth. Society expects women to be teachers or work social workers. The question remains, why women are paid less than men are? Every day, there is a new case of sexual harassment on the television against men. Women encounter unwanted advances from colleagues in the workplace. The Bills of Rights- Amendment 1 states that all people should have the right to freedom of speech. Well, women have not been able to utilize the First Amendment in workplaces across the United States. Women have remained silence because they fear speaking out against their male colleagues will create problems in the work place. Women feel they will be shamed or deemed liars. However, the ultimate fear is termination for speaking out and losing a job they love and worked so hard to obtain.
