Have you ever heard the saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? There are many things that look very unpleasing on the outside but actually have a meaning bigger than just our lives. Something that has a special meaning to me is the American Flag. Imagine a dirty, old flag that is still standing after a war that many soldiers have lost their life for. Thinking about that gives the flag a bigger meaning than just old cloth. The flag stands for all of Americans loyalty to their country. It also represents the hardships our country has overcome over many decades. The American Flag stands for everybody that has fought and died for our country. One of the biggest things the flag stands for is the loyalty of our people. The American Flag may not look like much but it stands for the loyalty that every citizen in America has for their country. It resembles many people's love for the place they live. It also stands for the knowing that many people would die fighting for our nation. People have been loyal since America was founded and there will always be somebody that will pass on that loyalty to the flag. There have been the fights for our freedom and fights against each other. Through all of the battles, the American flag stood strong and proud. There have been many sacrificed deaths for our freedom. I believe people lack respect for the flag and what it stands for. Although most people are proud to be an American, some don’t understand what it truly means to be an American. The flag is an emblem of the U.S and shall never be disrespected. The flag, for some people, can just mean a piece of fabric, but for others the flag symbolizes much much more.
Some have seen friends and family get tortured and murdered by their own government for daring to do things we take for granted every day. For those who risked everything simply for the chance to become an American....what kind of feelings do they have for the flag when they Pledge Allegiance the first time? Go to a naturalization ceremony and see for yourself, the tears of pride, the thanks, the love and respect of this nation, as they finally embrace the American flag as their own. Including, the success and struggles from the soldiers and their families. Also the movie depicts the story behind the famous picture of the flag that was raised in Iwo Jima. In 1954, Georgia dedicated the Confederate flag to be the state flag. The flag and its supporters point out that there will always be traces of slavery. It is an important part of our heritage. There are many representatives that are fighting for the flag to stay. One former U.S. Representative, Ben Jones, wants the flag to stay. His argument is that the flag is doing a job. The flag We all know and love the American flag today, which represents purity/innocence, hardiness and valor and it also represent the freedom of our country and many more. My solo project has many similarities to it because our flag symbolizes our island and it’s people. The flag is important in many ways because it symbolizes us as a group and who we are. I'm not that really an expert at this, but I did some research why our flag is important. This is relevant to our life because the flag is what represent us and who we are as a nation. I choose this because I’m interested in the country’s background and knowing their flag, it give you information what will be their country and culture will be about. For this project I had to make a flag for our island which was “Ceaw” and at first it was difficult to make, but in the end we made our flag. First our flag has two lines that go across in the middle which was colored black. Second we had a star in the middle around the stars are these fins like shape which was the color blue. For the result we have a flag for our island that symbolize us and our island.
